Extremely disappointed on the way I was treated and disrespected. My girlfriend said that she wanted to eat at this place so we drove all the way from Hoboken to come. She is eight months pregnant. as soon as we got there, she had to use the restroom, but the lady at the front had a very nasty attitude and said that it’s only for customers (with a attitude) My girlfriend went to the back in the restroom, and I followed her. as she went inside the restroom I just waited outside the door for her to let her know I was there and make sure she felt safe as she is sensitive and eight months pregnant. A big Dyke woman later came with a nasty attitude, telling me there’s no reason for me to be back there while she’s in the bathroom and she told me to go to the front. after I went to the front of the store, another lady that worked there said, would you like a seat at the bar or seat at a table? I told her neither because I would be leaving since I was treated rudely and they were being very hostile. She then screamed to another coworker and said see this is why you should have not let them use the bathroom. They only came here to use the bathroom. I told her ma’am no I did not. I came here to eat, but you’re being very rude and hostile so I will leave. Very disgusting people with a lot of attitude and it seems like the Dyke was security guard and she was just looking...
Read moreMy companion and I both ordered the same Main dish but with different sides. Her red snapper came out 10 minutes before mine with no sides. Then her one side, a salad came out. I still did not have mine. Then they brought out my main dish and a couple of minutes later brought out one of my sides. by this time, my companion was already eating her lukewarm food due to her hunger. Finally, they brought her second side. My second side was nowhere in sight and no one came to check. Finally I called over my server to tell her I still did not have my second side, and she informed me that the yams were cooking . I then asked if I can change to something that was ready and I changed it to macaroni and cheese. Both my companion and I were towards the end of our meal and I still did not have my second side. Eventually, another server who came on shift , started to check on our satisfaction. I told her about the fact that I had not received my second side order. She comes back about 5 minutes later and brings me the yams that I had originally ordered. By this time I had finished my meal and was not interested in eating anymore. The yams were the only thing that came out hot. Everything else was lukewarm. This was a really bad experience and I'm hoping that this comment will help them...

In a city where Black-owned restaurants too often come and go, this place is different—and it needs to stay.
From the moment you walk in, you can feel the heart, the hustle, and the heritage. The atmosphere is warm, the staff treats you like family, and the food? Soulful, creative, and packed with flavor. Every dish feels intentional—like someone’s grandmother passed down the recipe with love and pride.
Whether you’re stopping by for brunch, dinner, or just a quick bite, everything on the menu is made with care. The seasoning is on point, the portions are generous, and you can tell the ingredients are fresh. And the best part? It’s not just about food—it’s about community. This place gives people a space to gather, celebrate, and feel seen.
Restaurants like this don’t always get the support they deserve in this city, but this one is a keeper. If we want to see more places like this thrive, we have to show up for them—and keep showing up. So if you haven’t been yet, go. And if you have, go again. Tell your people, leave a tip, spread the word.
Because this isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a movement. And it...
