I discovered this jewel the other day, while I was google searching eateries in my area. It was an hour until closing time & I had my eyes & taste buds fixed on the oxtail plate. However, upon arrival, I found that they were out of the oxtail for the day, which is understandable given the time of day on a Sunday.
My cashier SHANIKA was so cool, pleasant & helpful in recommending some favs on the menu. 🫶🏾
📍I went with the combo plate: curry chicken & jerk chicken; rice & peas; cabbage & plantains.
The food smelled A-Mazing, and the flavors were spot on, not too seasoned or underseasoned- just right for my taste buds, although I would have liked the jerk chicken a bit spicier. The curry chicken & rice and peas were my favorite out of this dish!! chefs kiss 🤌🏽
The plantains I would've preferred a bit more crunch around the edges (but that's just me). Otherwise, they were yummy. Also, the cabbage was good. I personally love cabbage, so I'm partial. You get PLENTY of food for your buck too!
Oh & they have a live dj playing some nice carribean island music inside the spot. Nice touch!
📍This place has only been open for two weeks & by the looks of it, they're doing GREAT! I will definitely be back to try those oxtails and a slew of other dishes! So far, I'd give them an 8.5 out of 10!!
Thank you for the love you put...
Read moreCan't speak on the atmosphere but, if it's a reflection of the owner, then it's homely, hospitable, and warm. The service has been outstanding each and every time we order here (we order through their app). The FOOD is amazing. Coming from Caribbean descended families, we have refined taste for this type of food and we absolutely enjoy every single bite. The meats are not heavily salted which is great if you are watching your blood pressure. Otherwise, if you're like me and want it salty, just a dash brings the flavors exactly where you may need them. The rice&peas ... that rice&peas could sustain this business on it's own... thats how good it is. We love the sweet plantains and the macaroni pie. Have yet to try the other sides... we don't switch up the sides too much. I'd love to see handmade sorrel be added to the menu...... but thats a very Caribbean drink..... might not be enough demand in Houston for it so.. it's okay. 10/10 recommend...
Read moreMy wife and I ate there yesterday after a football game. We were really hungry and saw it was close and we decided to give it a try. I got the jerk chicken plate my wife had the goat. The chicken was very tender falling off the bone, but it was only seasoned on top and it wasn't grilled nor smoked. It lacked that real carribean flavor. It tasted like baked chicken with jerk sauce on top. My wife goat again, very tender but it lacked that umph that makes carribean food stand out. I had the cabbage which was mushy a d lacked flavor same for the rice and peas. We had the cake like mac and cheese which again lack flavor. To be clear, the food doesn't need salt, just flavor. Staff was cool. Place was clean, etc but they need to pay attention to the detail. People who eat carribean food knows...
