I don’t understand how this place is so highly rated. Maybe it’s because the hostess was so sweet. She’s the only saving grace - her and the comfy love seats which were surprisingly clean.
Everything else sucked. We like to think of ourselves as really understanding diners. We were both servers for years, so we understand being busy, having a bad night, or the kitchen breaking down.
First off, how are you considered a hibachi place if all your food comes from the kitchen? Secondly, our food (baked salmon roll, filet mignon, vegetable dinner) were all bland as all hell. Lastly, our server (Vincent) was literally the worst server we’ve ever had. He took at least ten minutes to greet our table when he only had one other table. He greeted us by saying, “Something to drink?” Nothing else. We offered to place our order if it was easier for him. He took it, and our food came out staggered as lol hell. The filet came out first. Then the vegetable about 5 minutes later. Finally, Vincent mentioned the sushi - which we thought he had forgotten. It came out about 30 minutes after we ordered.
To make matters worse, Vincent dropped the check without a word after never bringing us water or checking on us. Then, we waited for him to pick up the check for 10 minutes while stood in the bar and stated absentmindedly at nothing. I watched him. He got a 5-top at some point, but he had plenty of time before that to grab our card and run it. He just didn’t care.
Again, thank you to the hostess that saved us. She came and picked up the check without us asking. She was very intuitive and sweet.
Keep in mind we came in around 6 or so on a Wednesday night. These understanding, usually awesome tippers (and alcohol and appetizer buyers) will absolutely not be back.
Don’t waste your time. Go to Tokyo instead. Both locations in Beaumont are light years better with their sushi and...
Read moreLet's be honest. When you want good food, Beaumont, TX is not where you go. There is very little to offer regarding great cuisine. All hail the food Gods and let us give thanks for Koi! Tucked away, almost unnoticeable, is this fantastic Japanese inspired establishment. We ran into it by a happy accident. While not a large restaurant by any means, it it put together extremely well! The layout and decor is ambient and modern. The service was impeccable! Our server was Victoria- a very polite and charismatic young lady. Victoria knew the menu very well and took extra special care to accommodate my wife's food allergies- which is not common in this community. Our food consisted of Beef and chicken yakatori, salads, Sushi, and Beef Tenderloin Teriyaki with fried rice. The food was absolutely amazing. It was fresh, vibrant, and the Tenderloin Teriyaki was cooked to absolute perfection. The sushi was also fresh, and possessed exquisite flavor with the combination of the spices used. Fried rice is typically cooked in bulk. It can be dry and unpleasant. This fried rice was a fantastic compliment to my dish. It was cooked to order. Perfect! It was beaming with flavor and I loved it! We lived in Denver for many years. The Denver area is really a Renaissance of fine delicious food that has really made its mark in the restaurant industry. KOI could quite easily settle in a larger metropolitan area and compete just fine. The food was delicious. The service outstanding! You can tell these owners care about what comes out of that kitchen, and that my friends, deserves praise. Considering there isn't much at all in this area, I imagine we will eat here habitually for some time! Well done, KOI! 4.25 from this dining...
Read moreTrendy Restaurant with no substance. Short description, good food by someone who doesnt know anything about running a restaurant. The wait staff was inattentive, and was told of the things that I ordered they didnt sell 3 of them but they were still on the menu. Food starts coming, and I get to sit and watch my wife eat some really good looking food right in front of me while I drank my lukewarm tea. My food finally comes after my wife completely finished eating, and my appetizer came shortly after. The things i ordered came slowly one after another, so I though nothing when one thing I order wasnt immediately at the table. I finished everything else and asked about my remaining food to which I was told, "Oh, yea we dont sell that". That would have been something to know while I was ordering. Now to the food. The food was actually pretty good, although I think they ground the meat in the mussels, as the consistency was that of oatmeal. It was also the first time I have ever seen a restaurant that cooks the fish in a volcano roll, though the fish was perfectly cooked and the roll was delicious. The flavor of the food and the presentation was great, however the portion sizes were so horribly dissapoining. I spent $45 by my self and between me and my wife we spent $86 without tip and we both had to go across the street to the Italian place and get a pizza just to not be ravenously hungry. The budget chic modern decor isnt for me, but welcome to the...
