An Island Getaway With a Continental Landing at Roxy's Island Grill
I recently had the pleasure of indulging in a Hawaiian culinary journey at Roxy's Island Grill. Tucked away in the heart of Beaverton, Oregon, this humble eatery promises to transport its patrons to the paradisiacal shores of Hawaii with its food. Unfortunately, while the food and service hit all the right notes, the restaurant fell short in teleportation abilities.
Let's begin with the food - an area where Roxy's Island Grill truly shines. The Kahlua Pork, slow-cooked to perfection, was a harmonious blend of smoky, sweet, and succulent, transporting me directly to a luau in Maui. The Chicken Katsu, crispy on the outside and tender within, was a delightful dance of textures and flavors that added another layer to the Hawaiian experience.
The tropical drinks, too, were a hit. The Pineapple smoothie was a joyous celebration of freshness, while the refreshing Blue Hawaiian cocktail seemed to distill the very essence of the Pacific Ocean into a glass. And I must mention the Haupia dessert, a coconut-infused dream that was the perfect sweet note to end the meal on.
The staff at Roxy's was simply extraordinary. Each interaction was filled with the famed Aloha spirit - warm, welcoming, and effusive. It was as if each staff member was on a mission to make us feel like we were indeed in Hawaii, sharing the joy and camaraderie that one would expect from an island escape.
However, despite the beautiful charade, reality hit hard as I stepped out of the cozy confines of Roxy's Island Grill. The lush beaches and tropical warmth of the Big Island were replaced by the familiar sights of Beaverton, Oregon. The dream was shattered, the illusion broken.
Despite Roxy's best attempts at providing an authentic Hawaiian experience, I couldn't help but feel disappointed as I realized I was still thousands of miles away from the actual Hawaiian shores. The food, the ambiance, and the staff did a fantastic job of creating a Pacific haven in the middle of Oregon, but they were sadly unable to change my geographical location.
In conclusion, Roxy's Island Grill offers an enticing slice of Hawaii in the heart of Oregon. The food is nothing short of amazing, and the staff are a joy to interact with. However, if you're hoping for a magical teleportation to the sandy beaches of the Big Island after your meal, you might need to brace yourself for a slight disappointment. As a Hawaiian experience, it's a five-star delight; as a teleportation device, it, unfortunately,...
Read moreThis review is about this location's heartless, anti-customer policies and demeanor.
Roxy's locations use an online site for pickup orders - you can't call in an order. After a very long and stressful day helping a friend leave an abusive situation, I tried to place an order with the Milwaukie location so I wouldn't have to cook dinner for the kids. I got to the site, entered three meals, and it only showed one in the cart. It then kicked me out of the transaction entirely, causing me to have to enter the site again from Google and start over.
I finally get it working and submit my order - the page just refreshes looking the same, so I had no idea if it even went through. I drove to the location and pulled up my bank account - the charge was there. They didn't have my order, though, and noticed it said Beaverton.
I called the Beaverton location - this one - and requested they cancel the order and provide a refund, which they refused to do unless I came into the store (over half an hour away). I explained that I couldn't and again asked for my refund. Even after speaking to a manager and explaining the situation, they flat out refused to help me. Never have I experienced such a heartless response to such a simple mix up. They took down my contact info and said they would give it to the owner - after the way they treated me, I have no assurance that will actually happen.
This location will never get my business and I will be telling everyone I know this story. This franchise obviously cares about money more than people, and it shows. With all the small restaurants struggling and going out of business, ones like this don't deserve to make the cut.
Edit: The restaurant's reply is untrue. I had to contact my bank to contest the charge and have it removed. They never sent me a text receipt saying they refunded it, either. I've since told all of my friends and acquaintances about this experience, and I'll be updating them on this false, face-saving reply from...
Read moreOur first visit: Took a really long time (45+ min), the atmosphere was pretty quiet aside from employees bickering about what was where and in the end the staff ended up handing us a leaky to go bag because all the sauces had opened up inside before they even handed it to us. The chicken was undercooked as well which ruined the whole meal for 1 of 2 people. Thought maybe it was just an off day for Roxy's and shrugged it off.
Our second visit: Mobile Order 3:26pm, arrived at 3:56pm (30 minutes later). I was told it would be 5-7 minutes longer.. it was 20 additional minutes waiting in the lobby.
What followed was almost comical as 4 customers came in right behind to pick up to Mobile Orders and were all told it would be 5-7 minutes, yet none of them got their food while I was there for the 20min.
Overall: It takes them about 50 minutes (or more) to prepare orders, they seem to always be so far behind that they tell every guest it'll be about 3-5 minutes yet it's definitely closer to that 15-20 minutes range. The staff seems pretty combatant between each other, not to mention disorganized. This leads the overall atmosphere to be pretty dismal with so many people sitting around the lobby waiting in silence, no one eating.
We probably won't...
