2nd time to dine for lunch on a weekday for 2 people. The food was good but the restaurant was nearly full so the service was slow. We waited over 30 minutes once our order was taken to be served. Our drinks were left to hit empty before we received refills. The dessert we ordered was superb. We ordered the peach cobbler. My wife ordered a chicken panini sandwich and fries. I ordered catfish and fries. The panini was average and cold. The catfish was breaded with a flour batter not cornmeal- so it was different. But the catfish itself was good. It tasted fresh- not freezer burned frozen. The fries were good, served hot, and were seasoned with a chili powder- would have preferred just salt and pepper. We would return. We do recommend. The ambience is good. On the down side, it was so noisey that we could not converse across the table. One would easily think all the seniors with hard of hearing issues in Bedford, VA decided to show up for lunch with broken hearing devices. This was less than ideal. The owners did come by our table and thank us personally. They made us feel like we mattered. On the negative side, there is no place to sit inside the restaurant for waiting on your table. The seating is outside on concrete benches when it is 90 degrees.....so my wife who has cancer could not sit without great discomfort. The owners could at least put a chair inside for...
Read moreSince it was number one on Expedia for best restaurants in Bedford, VA we had to and were not disappointed by the food or the service. Our waitress, the two hostesses and two mangers who worked the floor constantly helping wait staff during our meal were all wonderful.
First off, I would highly recommend the pineapple upside down martini. 😁. The little pottery croc of three types of bread served with strawberry butter was charming. I took a chance and had the salt and pepper catfish. (I'm very picky about catfish since I grew up eating fried catfish from the river cooked by my dad.). It was highly recommend and rightfully so. Wow! Seasoned perfectly and great quality. I choose corn pudding and coleslaw as my sides, and they were also delicious. The corn pudding, which in Texas would be called corn casserole, was sweeter than I'm used to, but I loved it. The coleslaw was less sweet than I'm used to, but I loved that too. This was the first time I've had remoulade, and I immediately decided I like it better than tarter sauce. Husband had beef tips and the only "complaint" he had was there wasn't more. 🤣🤣🤣 The twice baked potato and crispy onion rings were great too! If you're trying to decide whether to get the key lime or chocolate swirl cheesecake, I can't help you. They are both equally scrumptious. Good luck! 😉 Definitely a superior...
Read moreHad delicious catfish dinner. We arrived after rush time on a Wednesday. The main dining room was still full, so we asked for a table in the bar. I will always do that in the future because the noise level in the bar is so much less that we were actually able to have a conversation. Food is always excellent. One of my sides was forgotten until we talked to the bartender and it was immediately served. The broccoli side was excellent-- cooked perfectly to tender crisp stage and bright green NOT olive drab mush. Other recommended sides are the corn pudding & creamed spinach for something other than fries. Onion rings are good too. The onion soup is filling, pairs well with a salad for a delishious lighter meal. Service was fast and friendly. It is fun to see and hear the trains passing by on the N&W tracks. The restaurant is located in the renovated old train station. Prices are reasonable..$8 to $20 for most meals and generous portions are served. Handicap parking is available. I am not positive, but I think the entrance doors have a button for auto opening, wheelchair friendly. Staff have always been friendly and helpful. I would go more often if the noise level were lower during peak times. I would recommend it as one of Bedford, VA's better...
