MJ’s Grill & Bar — Restaurant in Bedford

I want to start off by saying the food was good. Our issue was the service. We were seated in the bar area so we could watch an NFL game. The bar tender was our waitress. It wasn’t busy at all. She took our order for drinks and apps. Forgot the drinks (most of us were drinking water anyway) and kept telling us the appetizers would be right out. After the 3rd or 4th time of telling us that she came back to the table and asked us what we had ordered. Finally brought one of the drinks to the table and ended up pouring water in it at some point so she had to bring a new one. She did end up bringing the other drink she forgot about too. 2 of the 3 appetizers showed up at the table about 10 minutes or so after she asked us what we ordered. 1 was wrong, 1 was right, and 1 was missing. The wrong 1 got sent back to correct and we reminded her of the 3rd. They made it to the table. We ordered meals for the kids and I guess she didn’t put the orders in because the table behind us got there, ordered, ate appetizers & meals, then left. We still didn’t have a cheeseburger or chicken tenders. Asked her about them. I’m guessing she put in the order for the burger at that point because it showed up 10-15 minutes later and it was wrong, but still no chicken tenders. We asked her about them again and they showed up another 15 minutes later. Told her we wanted to place a wing order early on (when the appetizers arrived) and about an hour later she said “was I supposed to put in a wing order?”, but we said no. We didn’t order anything else. Too much of a hassle to get what we did order. After pouring water in the soda, she didn’t refill any drinks at the table. We were ready for the check and the manager was walking around. Stopped by our table to ask if everything was good and I told him about our issues. He thought I was joking at first, even told me that. I wasn’t. The chicken tenders were already taken off the bill because we had to wait so long for them (her words) and he gave us a discount for our troubles. They were nice enough to make sure we had the game on to watch and the food is worth a trip back. With everything that happened, I don’t believe the kitchen made the food wrong. Probably put the orders in wrong. We will try again, but someone get that girl a pencil and notepad so she can properly take an...

I was told people love to read my reviews, so buckle up this is going to be a long one. MJ's Bar and grill is unique. The menu is rather extensive and you can probably find something for even the pickiest eater.

We arrived at 4:45PM and took advantage of the half off appetizers. We ordered medium Buffalo wings to go and onion straws. Right after ordering the manager approached us about their change in alcohol vendor and to go to the bar and sample the new one based out of Roanoke, Virginia. We both went and tried the new alcohol choice....Definitely a step up. Strongly recommend visiting their bar.

It took a little longer than expected but our onion straws arrived and they were excellent. It was served with ranch and house light spiced dip.

The food arrived shortly thereafter, my husband ordered the Bourbon glazed burger and I got the chicken quesadilla. (Served with fries) The fries were excellent. I had asked for ranch and my server forgot, not a big deal the service was good. The quesadilla was horrible. I wish I could say that nicer but it's true. It's very bland served with sour cream and taco like sauce. I didn't tell the manager because I couldn't pinpoint exactly what made it so bad.

However, the burger was phenomenally excellent. I had a bite of my husband's and really wished I had ordered it. If you live in Lynchburg you should try this burger in Bedford. They had several options of burgers and they actually cook it to your preference, medium.

Some final thoughts, if you are a dipper, like I am, the ramekins are extremely small. You'd need several to be content. The atmosphere was great and they have half off appetizers 2PM-5PM and a special on well drinks. If you are the type that gets offended at the severs doing sidework/eating in the dining room, this may not be the place for you. The presentation of the food was thoughtful. The Buffalo boneless wings had celery and carrots. The wings were good but not spicy at all. The prices have changed but I feel the portion sizes were a good value. Our total bill was $43 which isn't bad for everything ordered, happily tipped the server 35%. The manager and rest of the staff were all friendly. We'll definitely be returning because I want that...

We decided to try MJs bar and grill. The server was nice, but the service was very slow and it took us over an hour to an hour and a half to get our food and they were not even busy when we got there. One of my kids spilled his drink on the floor and we did not have the napkins needed to clean it up so we alerted the staff immediately. We had to mention it again because nobody came to help, but it was still several minutes before someone came to mop it up. When our food came out, the steak was not cooked as ordered and the kid's chicken was kind of tough. We asked for some ketchup and never got it. I had to mention that I did not get my salad. I did get it after the meal came out, but it had onions cut up into small pieces in it when I requested no onions. Our table was never prebussed - not even the appetizer plate was picked up. When we got our check, I noticed that prices on the check did not match the menu so I questioned it immediately. The girl I mentioned it to said she would get the manager and I said ok.I assumed it was a mistake and did not have any issue with what I thought was an error until the manager Thomas came out to the table with a bad attitude about it. He very rudely informed me that the check was right and there was a sign on the front door that told me that all prices were off by a dollar and said I was rude and disrespectful for questioning the check. 1 item was actually off by $2. I didn't see the sign and I mentioned they should really update the menus and his response was that they were waiting for new menus and told me again that I was rude and disrespectful and he continued to be disrespectful to me. I told him that this was our first and last time visiting this establishment and he said good because with the mess that my child made referring to my 1 year old child that he doesn't want me back there. I looked at him and said "you have an issue with my 1 year old child making a mess?" He threw his hands up and continued to be rude. I am posting this as a warning to others. The manager apparently does not like to have things questioned and apparently does not understand or accept that children...
