Best wedding shower I've ever thrown or been to, hands down! Julie the owner was amazing to work with, even from Indianapolis before I came to town.
She threw out ideas for 3-4 courses of small-plate apps paired with wines and suggested some combos. Loved her recommendations and flexibility on being inside or outside on the patio. She even said they could switch day-of if the weather was too hot or rainy!
Day of, Julie's team called to confirm we'd be outside. When we got there about an hour early to set things up, the patio was GORGEOUS! I mean seriously gorgeous. Huge, custom planters of seasonal flowers, covered seating with elegant tents and chandeliers, simple and gorgeous white tablecloths and place settings (we added small potted succulents and it was perfect) and a comfy wicker-rattan seating area. A spot for the gifts, a table for guests to contribute advice, etc.
THE FOOD COULD NOT HAVE BEEN BETTER! Started with a fruit and cheese plate (the baked bread cheese was to die for, try it now!) and its wine pairing, expertly described to the group as it was being placed in front of the guests. Followed by succulent tenderloin strips with gorgonzola and mushrooms and toast points (wow! my personal favorite). Next, Margherita pizza and last was a strawberry tartine with a balsamic reduction (I didn't know what that was exactly either, but suffice it to say it was delicious). Rave, rave reviews from our 25+ guests, even my 6 year old daughter who made a new best friend with our waitress-extraorinaire, Jess. Ask for Jess, she was on top of everything and so much fun!
Honestly could not have been a better experience all the way around. Plus, did you know A'Bravo was reviewed by a national team of food critics during Restaurant Week this summer and they will be featured in a national pub?!?
This place is a gem in a world of chain restaurants. And the prices are more than reasonable for fresh, delicious food.
Thanks again,...
Read moreUpdate: July 2022 I went for dinner and ordered the Big Boo again. It was not the same recipe as when I had it last. The spicy white sauce was extremely spicy ( 5 out of 5). It was way too hot . Three hours after eating it was pouring out of me with the same extreme burn. Please bring back the old recipe.
July 2021 Sorry, I usually take photos but today I wasn't expecting anything to get excited about. Let me first tell you that this place has high prices. It does. I have been here a handful of times and to pay $8 and $9 for a mixed drink that is maybe 4 ounces and the rest ice is crazy to me, but that's what it is. I have had a few dishes such as their spaghetti squash and meatballs and the Big Boo. The first taste of the Big Boo made me feel like I was home. It was amazing! Huge portion though, so take it easy and don't eat the whole thing at once like I did. My wife told me to try a mule ($8) and she had a light Russian ($9). I will say that they were tasty. I am not really much of a drinker at all, but to have 2 drinks each and have a bar bill of$ 34 seems high to me, but maybe I am just old. Back to my meal yesterday. No meat Friday and my wife is watching her carbs so no fish fry. That left me with salmon and of course it came with miso cauliflower (did I mention I don't like cauliflower). My wife loves this place so I went for her. I took a piece of cauliflower of the plate and tried it, expecting poor disappointment, and to my astonishment it was quite good! I still hate cauliflower, but the way they prepared it was amazing. The micro greens on the salmon was a very nice touch. Oh yeah the salmon was also done very well. Our bill was $100 for salmon (me), scallops (my wife), and 4 specialty drinks. Eventhough the prices are a bit on the higher end, we keep going back. The atmosphere is very quaint and quiet. If you are looking for something different and unique, this place needs to be...
Read moreA'Bravo was a great experience overall. My wife and I went here for date night. The drinks were fantastic. I had the strawberry mojito and my wife had wine.
We both eat paleo normally so we try hard not to go too outside of gluten-free when we can. A'Bravo has a great selection of gluten-free options. We started with the shrimp and grits. They tasted awesome, everything was well seasoned. The grits were a little off texture as evidenced by the owner having a conversation with a few of the Packers players. She was asking them how to improve them.
We also received some gluten-free bread which was great! That was when our wait began for our main courses. We waited about a half hour before they came out and we had very high expectations for our food. Shrimp and Andoulie sausage skewers and scallops with risotto. The Andoulie was awesome, flavorful and spicy. The spinach was tasty too. Everything was cooked beautifully, but the seafood on both plates and the risotto was bland and unseasoned.
We were told it would be worth the wait, and it would have been if they had just tasted the food first. We were told that there was a chef in training there that night from Fox Valley.
This is great, I'm an Educator myself, however, someone should have been checking things over. When you charge nearly $30 a plate things need to be flawless. The dinner did end on a high note with the flourless chocolate cake!
It was just disappointing that the appetizer outshined the main course. We do plan to go back and try them again!
Hopefully, it will be up to the standards that they put forth in their appetizers...
