Before I begin I would just like to say that I am not the type of person who regularly leaves scathing reviews on places I’ve been to that have provided unsatisfactory food/service. I understand how hard it is to work in the food industry and that mistakes will always be made, but the experience my friends and I had at WindMill last night was too good not to tell others. There were three people working at WindMill when I ordered last night: a tall man, a ginger haired man with a durag, and another individual who I did not interact with. Despite a sign saying “NO EARBUDS”, two of the three employees were wearing some. Upon our arrival, the ginger haired man was aggressively flirting with two young women as he gave them their food. To say his behavior towards them was unprofessional would be an understatement. The tall man then threatened to fight the ginger haired man after the ginger haired man bumped into him while trying to get some food. Immediately I knew this would be an interesting experience. After waiting for roughly 10 minutes, the tall man took our orders. My friend ordered first and asked how many chicken tenders came in their “Chicken tenders and fries” option. The tall man replied, “A bunch. I don’t know… like four or five”. My friend ordered the meal and was served wings. The tall man also didn’t write down any of our orders so that could’ve been why my friend was given the wrong food. I ordered next. I happened to be wearing a Dwayne Wade Miami Heat jersey which caused the tall man and the ginger haired man to ask me if I was from Miami. After telling them five times that I am, in fact, not from Miami and just like the jersey, they finally got the message. Or so I thought, because the ginger haired man then exclaimed, “He’s from Compton!”. The tall man, who was by now cooking my burger, turned around and with a blank stare said to me, “You better watch yourself tonight”. I did not wait for my friends and immediately left after receiving my order. The double cheeseburger I ordered was actually pretty decent. My chocolate milkshake tasted a little too chocolate syrup-y, but I guess that makes sense because the ginger haired man did not know how to work the milkshake machine and poured a container of chocolate syrup into my cup. Also there appears to be no differentiation between the “large”, “regular” and “small” milkshake sizes as each milkshake served while I was there was poured into the same sized soda cup. Apparently the place broke into pure mayhem after I left, according to one of my friends who was still waiting for his order, because the tall man only took an order of burgers from a man in the back of the line and refused to serve anyone else. They claimed it was closing time, but WindMill was supposed to be open for another 30 minutes. All of the employees appeared to be high while we were there. If they hadn’t been smoking weed, they had definitely taken something that would cause them to fail a drug test. I was relieved to hear that the people who ordered after us were appalled by this experience as well and said that they “had never seen anything like it” in the parking lot later. I was worried that my friends and I had gone insane. It is safe to say that I would not recommend this establishment and will never come back again, but the experience I had here is something that I will...
Read moreI hope you read this message as it touched my heart. I was at belmar NJ Windmill today April 2 at 6pm. There were two young men working. Both of them had a happy and helpful personality. Laughing with customers and they had such great customer service skills. Please and thank you came out of their mouths a dozen times while I was there but what really made me happy was how the one tall employee helped an older customer with his wife and son. The employee carried the man’s food to the table got him the ketchup and mustard so the man didn’t have to get back up and get it. He actually helped the older man as he sat in the booth to make sure he didn’t fall and asked if he needed anything else. I was so impressed how he went out of his way out from behind the counter yet to take care of the family. So I was done eating and went to my car. I saw an old man in the parking lot get out of his car with a cane. It took him a long time to get to the curb to get into windmill. We just as the young employee saw the older man slowly walking up to the curb the employee went outside and helped the old man in. He walked next to the man than held the door for him as he got inside. I mean really this kid was watching everyone and going out of his way to help. I am so impressed by him and his manners and his thoughtfulness. A+ employee. I hope you recognize him in some way. He...
Read moreToday I went to the Windmill in Belmar for National Hot Dog Day. I ordered a hot dog, hamburger, and lemonade. I meant to get a chili dog and cheeseburger but failed to specify that. Don't know what I was thinking. I'll remember next time.
The hot dogs here are consistently good. Today was no different. My hot dog was prepared perfectly. Piping hot as opposed to lukewarm like the hot dogs I had this past weekend. And at 4 to a lb it has some substance unlike the pencil thin 12 to a lb cocktail franks. This particular frank, a Sabrett pork and beef, has a great snap and a subtle blend of mild spices. A top notch hot dog.
My burger was the first one I've ever had at a Windmill and I've been going over 20 years. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. I ordered it medium rare and it came out that way. Too many places overcook a burger. It stood out for it's rich charbroiled flavor. I will be getting it whenever I go to the Windmill. Sorry I waited this long.
The Windmill is known for excellent service. I've never had anything less in all the years I've been going. The staff here is young and energetic. They truly seem to love their job. It's refreshing and adds to the experience. A great way to spend National Hot Dog Day. The only thing that would make it better would be if my wife was still here to enjoy it with me like so many times...
