Ocean Explorer — Local services in Belmar

Great Captain and Crew!!! I sailed on the Ocean explorer recently on a Seabass trip. It was a beautiful day on the ocean. I am fairly new to fishing so when we hit our first stop I was just one of few not catching any fish. The other guys fishing on the boat were offering me up some pointers (really great guys) but I still couldn't hit anything while most were pulling fish over the rail. One hitting their 10 fish limit by 10:30AM (90 minutes into the start of fishing). Captain Bob came down to fish with us and asked how I was doing. I told him not great. He asked Anna (one of two mates on the boat, Zack the other) to set me up with a new rig on my spinning reel. The new rig included a fake eel from his own tackle box. Captain Bob fished next to me on the boat on and off continuously offering up some training on how to jig and set the hook. I had a great day from there on, hitting my 10 fish limit. I told the capt if he continued to train me I'd be back, he said " you got it.... see you during fluke season". Like most who like to fish I wish I could do it more often. With work, the stars have to align with a light day of meetings, and the ocean has to be somewhat calm (still working on my sea legs) for me to get out there. So sorry capt. if I don't see you sooner but thanks for a great day. Another big thank you to Anna and Zack (who I almost whacked in the head trying to pull a fish over the rail). Hope to get out...

We've gone on your boat about eight times now and think you guys are the best. Bob as captain will not sit if the fishing is slow. He isn't afraid to burn fuel to try and find the fish. Dave, one of the mates, will come to your assistance if he SEES you need it. He doesn't wait to be called. He continued to fillet fish after docking the boat. I watched you both take the time to explain to a guy who didn't speak English how he SHOULDN'T cast and should add more weight to hold bottom and not scope. He wound up with a few really nice keeper sea bass. You TRY, you're courteous, you're PROFESSIONALS who take pride and pleasure from your work. We will certainly be back again for whatever species you're going for and won't be upset if we don't catch because we know it won't be for lack of trying on your part. What a wonderful experience! We could not fake the smiles on our faces for the duration of the afternoon whale watching cruise if we tried! During the trip, we came upon multiple beautiful whales. It was perfect weather of course! We went pretty far out to sea. The views of the New York City skyline were an amazing highlight! The commentary was very informative and the captain had a soothing voice. The crew members were so pleasant and professional. They were very generous with safety tips and that gave us an immense sense of security, especially for my 7-year-old. The vibe of the whole boat ride was extremely positive and we felt so relaxed. Above all, we were so happy! Ocean Explorer’s crew have now made me a happy lifetime customer for sure! We will most definitely be coming back! I highly recommend Ocean Explorer to people...
