We used to be regular happy customers that ate here at lunchtime over a year ago before moving away from the area. Being in Killeen for an event we suggested to our Waco friends that we hadn’t seen in sometime that this was a restaurant worth them making the 45 minute drive for. First we tried to get online reservations and there were none available at 5pm which seemed strange so we called and were told the best they could accommodate was 5:15 which was no big deal but odd because they restaurant was mostly empty. Our waitress Ari, had a real attitude which was explained away because another table had upset her and we try to cut her some slack because of it. The drinks menu did not have a list of liquor and prices. My wife asked our server for one and she asked what she wanted. What she wanted they didn’t have and she wasn’t thrilled with the closest thing or the attitude of the server but when you haven’t seen your friends and don’t want to ruin your evening she let it go and then my wife was served the wrong shot, the server insisted it was the right shot and never apologized. Sick of her attitude my wife goes straight to the bartender, again asks for a list of liquor with prices and he responds that Ari messed up and he’d make sure she brought her the right tequila this time. I say to the waitress since she can’t reserve the shot to anyone else I would just dump the blanco tequila my wife didn’t order into my margarita. Again my wife asked the waitress for a list of liquor and prices because once given the correct Reposado, she knew that’s not what she wanted in the first place and wanted to order something different. The waitress states they don’t have a menu. My wife is unhappy but concedes to 2 more shots of the reposado as we had a very early morning the next day and our friends had the long drive back to Waco and it’s not practical to go somewhere else to drink. Our bill arrived and we were charged for 5 shots instead of the 3 ordered not counting the wrong one she brought and left at the table. $15.75 for a shot of Casamigos is insane. My wife knows thing are going to get heated so we pay the tab, give our rude waitress a nice tip and decide to wait and email management. The response to my wife’s email came from Sarah Trumbull to whom never said if she was a manager. She took up for her server’s attitude because of the previous table upsetting her so much. Said because of TABC rules she had to charge for the incorrect shot but would provide a discount. My wife asked what about the extra shot never ordered or served and got a email with a refund of $15.75 the cost of one shot minus tax and no discount for the wrong shot. My wife asked what about the discount for the incorrect shot and why was she not given a liquor menu that she asked for 3 times and Sarah responded that they didn’t have one. My wife said that price for a shot of Casamigos is insane because at bars in DFW shots of Macallan 12 are $18 and there’s a difference of $30 per bottle between the two and Sarah said she thought they were on par. Bottom line do not come to this restaurant for shots of any kind, good service and the best Sarah could do was refund a shot we were never served. Utterly ridiculous customer service all the way around and the fact that you are expected to be a psychic in order to know their prices is taking advantage of their customers and simply bad business. Once a restaurant we really enjoyed it sure has gone downhill and the person, Sarah, justifying how our evening went should not respond to customers if that’s the best she can do. Btw, I think this may be the first negative review I’ve ever left so let that...
Read moreThe Gin at Nolan Creek in Belton, Texas, exceeded all expectations and left us thoroughly impressed! We had a last-minute gathering and needed seating for a table of 10. Despite giving them very short notice, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us quickly and without any hassle. That kind of flexibility and customer service is rare these days and set the tone for a wonderful dining experience.
The servers were outstanding—friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive without being overbearing. They took the time to explain the menu in detail, answer all our questions, and make thoughtful recommendations tailored to our preferences. Their professionalism and warmth truly elevated the experience.
We started with the fried pickles, and they were the perfect appetizer to share with our group. They came out hot, crispy, and seasoned just right. These weren’t your average fried pickles—they were a great balance of crunch and flavor, making them a must-try for anyone visiting.
For our entrees, several of us ordered the surf-and-turf mahi and the 8-ounce steak. Words cannot do this dish justice—it was absolutely phenomenal! The steak was tender and cooked exactly to our liking, with a rich, savory flavor that paired perfectly with the delicate, flaky mahi. The preparation and presentation of both were top-notch, rivaling anything you’d find at a high-end steakhouse.
One thing to note is that while the side portions were on the smaller side, the flavor made up for it. For those who like hearty meals, you’ll be thrilled with the burgers here. They’re massive, packed with flavor, and everything you want in a burger—juicy, well-seasoned, and satisfying. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into every dish, from the simple to the more complex.
The ambiance of The Gin is also worth mentioning. The setting by Nolan Creek adds a charming and relaxing touch, making it an excellent spot for both casual get-togethers and special occasions. Whether you’re dining indoors or enjoying the view from the outdoor seating, the atmosphere is inviting and comfortable.
This was one of the better dining experiences we’ve had in a long time. From the accommodating staff to the delicious food and the warm, welcoming vibe, The Gin at Nolan Creek has earned a spot at the top of our favorites list. Highly recommend it to anyone in the area or passing through Belton! We’re already looking forward to...
Read moreWe’re locals to this area and we’ve seen the Gin turn owners once. Since the reopening under a revamp, we’ve come back a couple of times and the food had been decent with a hit or miss wait staff.
We want to love this place, it’s unique to our town’s history, and the location is great with a beautiful view.
However; today it was a horrible disappointment. We went after our Easter service excited to sit down and enjoy a family brunch now that they offer it on their menu. It was 11:45 when we sat down.
Right off the cuff they had no orange juice (mind it’s a brunch place on Sunday), but had juice for mimosas (opted to order one). My husband tried to order an alternative (coffee) and the waiter said their machine was broken. We sat for an hour waiting on food; at which point I searched for the manager. I was redirected by another waitress. At that point, she sent our original waiter out with boxes to-go. We still had no food at that point. The waiter realized that and then took our order again verbatim. Another 20 mins rolled by at which point I sent my husband to the kitchen to look for the manager to explain the situation. They figured out our food had gotten “lost” and they hadn’t even made it yet. We opted to take ours to go as we have a baby and at that point we had exhausted our entertainment options to a crabby toddler (completely understandable after 1hr w/o food). We specified our other two family members would stay to eat fresh warm food.
They bagged our food and the manager offered to comp two out of four meals. We left, paid our check and left our two teenagers to eat. When they brought them their food to the table (in TO GO CONTAINERS) it was cold. They ate it; at this point they were hungry and it was 1:30PM. When they tried to leave, the waiter tried to charge them AGAIN. When my son tried to explain that the check had been paid because of their horrible time management and losing our orders the manager was rude and tried to say it wasn’t. My son got on the phone to call us and my husband had to go over the entire issue again with a less than polite manager.
Long story short, they tried to charge twice for a meal that was one hour and a half lost in...
