I had been wanting to try this place out for a long time, and never got around to it. I was pretty excited since I had heard good things about the food, even from people I know. I don't know if they were having an off day when I tried them, but honestly the tacos were mediocre at best. I had the al pastor, suadero, and campechano(asada/pastor) mix. The al pastor was dry, and the adobo was bland, the pineapple overpowered the taste. The suadero was wasn't cooked properly, it was really tough and chewy. Suadero should be slow cooked in 50% lard and 50% water until the meat is nice and tender. The asada was very salty, and the cut of meat they used was pretty low quality, I prefer arrachera for asada tacos. The salsas are something that can save an average taco, and these sure didn't. They were so watered down they were almost like caldo(soup), they didn't have good taste for me. My wife had an asada burrito, and she also said the meat was salty. My kids are picky as well and didn't like the asada tacos they had either. I still haven't found a place with outstanding tacos in the belvidere/rockford area. My expectations might be too high since i have had tacos in Mexico city. Honestly the most decent taco place I've been to in the area is Buenavista in Crystal Lake. Like I said I might have gone to try the food on an off day, since this place has alot of good reviews, and like I said even some people I know love this place. I might give it another try...
Read moreMy husband and I are new to town, and we were excited to try this Mexican restaurant. For context, we eat Mexican food several times a week at home and have been to many authentic Mexican restaurants over the years. Unfortunately, this visit was a major letdown.
We were seated and given chips and salsa, but we sat for about 10 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order. When the waitress finally approached, she asked me what I wanted to drink, then said “anything else?” without even asking my husband. He eventually got his order in, but it already felt like the service was rushed and inattentive.
I ordered a margarita, and while their menu listed several flavors, they only had strawberry. That alone told me they were using a pre-mixed margarita rather than making them fresh. It was not good—I didn’t even drink half.
When it came time to order food, the waitress asked my husband what he wanted, started to walk away, and didn’t even ask for my order until I spoke up. My husband ordered oysters, which looked like they had been sitting out far too long. They were not fresh, and now he is sick—possibly with food poisoning.
For two drinks, one appetizer, and two very mediocre meals, and 18% tip, our bill came to $92. Considering the slow, inattentive service, poor drink quality, questionable food safety, and overall lackluster experience sadly, we will not...
Read moreGood tacos. I would like to see them tone down the red salsa. It is extremely hot. You can’t even enjoy it. Too much Chile de árbol and not enough tomato. Would give them a 5 but they don’t do anything to the tortilla like add a bit of oil to make it juicy. Overall great. They also deliver which is a huge plus. But I strongly encourage you to change the red salsa. It’s a deterrent to some of us who love very spicy stuff. Too hot to taste any Flavor. It literally overpowers the flavor...
