Fosters Freeze — Restaurant in Berkeley

-Short Version: The clerk and cook lied to us about the green mold growing on our bun, then told us bread mold is different and safe to eat compared to regular mold, refused to refund my money and tried to make us another grilled cheese with the same mold bread loaf from before. I finally got a refund, but it was a whole lot of hassle for no reason. I would give them 0 stars if possible. My entire family had food poisoning the next day. -Long Version: Took my girlfriend here to grab some food for us and my mom. She ordered a grilled cheese, ate half of it before she saw the mold. We took it back and the clerk told us very plainly it wasn't mold until the woman cook in the back came over to see what was wrong. She also told us it wasn't mold, but like 2 minutes later admitted that it was mold, but that it was somehow safe to eat "because i cooked it and bread mold is different". Argued with her about getting my money back, which she blatantly ignored and tried to make my gf another moldy grilled cheese. Had to argue with her again for like 3 minutes before they gave us the money back for the sandwich. Also, the very next day we had food poisoning so bad that my diarrhea didn't subside for 2 days afterward. Will never be coming here again. I would suggest everybody who eats here to check their food before making the mistake of eating at this establishment. Not to mention everything is hella overpriced here, for 3 people it came out to like $45!...

I grew up across the street going to West Campus I set my first track record at West Campus I did it off of Foster Freeze milkshakes and hot fudge sundae and determination ! so I've decided to stop By on. A MAY DAY in 2019 to see if it was the same they told me for 52 years they use the same ice cream my cousin who had bought the hamburger said the hamburger sucked my hot fudge sundae was great they even gave me free extra nuts like I'm not a nut already anyway whenever y'all get a chance I'm James McCoy come to one of my comedy shows at Tommy T's I'm having one June 13th for my 61st birthday it would be nice to see the class of 76 there matter of fact if you say you from the class of 1976 which means we went to West Campus and what 73-74 I'll let you in for free so the class of 76 my high school graduating class and Class of 73 74 went to West Campus we YOU GET in free thank you P.s. the shrimp reminded me OF KWICK Way.S only they didn't have...

This is purely a review of their food - I'm not about to judge them on the space since they're kinda in a parking lot. I've had their food a few times, and I usually start on my meal about 5 mins after I got it from them. This is kind of a factor for burgers and fries...

...And they are excellent! Their burgers are solid, and very reasonably priced. I like Jack in the Box, but if I'm paying $8-10 on a nice burger from either place, Fosters Freeze is by far the better choice. Minimal grease or salt, doesn't make me want to run and grab a salad afterwards - yeah, these guys are legit!

As for fries, I'd rate them as pretty good overall, but you can't go wrong with their waffle fries - so good that I'm tempted to go back just to order only those!

If you think of them as a takeout spot and not a sit down restaurant, then they're definitely up there at the top....
