Chef Elmy Chicken Shawarma
We begin with organic boneless skinless thigh, then i marinate it for 24 hours. Finally, i grill it to perfection. Food could be boring so i always play with the spices that change the taste but it remains chicken with attitude. This is how i serve the shawarma on a fresh baked pita bread or egyptian tortilla if you don't like it tell me how you want it and since i'm the boss man i will oblige. It comes with lots of goodies that is healthy so don't ask.
Chef Elmy's Gyro
Everything added to the gyro is organic including the homemade sauce. From me to you.

I was biking on a cold rainy day when I spotted a food truck bearing a towering pharaoh, and paused to examine the offerings. As I was window shopping (I had left my wallet at home), the owner emerged and insisted I accept a bowl of soup. He was undeterred by my lack of payment methods: “Pay me tomorrow, eat now!” Like many children of immigrants, I was naturally unable to reject his aggressively nurturing presence as he commanded me to get off my bike and eat. Presently, the soup revived my capacity for coherent thought and I realized I had my phone and could order to my heart (and stomach)’s content. The standout: the chunky nugget of falafel with a crunchy exterior and fluffy couscous interior, accompanied with an incredible sauce. He and his wife (?) also smoke their own eggplants! Everything was vegetarian, hearty and delicious. Most of all, I was incredibly thankful to receive this stellar level of hospitality from someone who clearly loves to feed people. I felt like I had emerged from my uncle’s home: dazed, warmed, and balancing more leftovers than I could...

I can’t wait to get back here!!! Food was delicious, grateful 💗

2nd Review: Chef Elmy is awesome sauce! The Man has a touch to food!!! His sweetheart, she's super nice and you will see her cashiering- only been here twice and I simply love!

The first time I tried a beef gyro- I've never had one prior to this and it did not disappoint.

They start off with a bamboo shoot soup that is very comforting and light.

The couple were kind enough to make me an awesome dish for a special holiday today. I'm sure they sell it often, it's so delicious! It consists of lightly fried Salmon, prawns, and the most delicious sausage I've ever tasted! I can't eat pork so I was very happy to hear it's Lamb. I'm so surprised how tasty it was! He makes the sausage from scratch- someone should help him package it for the stores! It's that good!!! I'm so satisfied and grateful today. It's not the best pictures because I started eating right after I gave my grace!!!

Thank you Chef Elmy and his sweetheart!!! A must if you're in Berkeley! I got the...

If Anthony Bourdain was still alive :(, he would, without a doubt in my mind, visit Chef Elmy.

Chef Elmy is a genuine character, and so is his food. When I asked him about what his bread was made with, he replied, "It's made with love!"

When you come here, he treats you not as a mere customer but someone to share a love of food with. We were doing a team lunch, and he instantly handed all of us little bowls of soup before we even ordered. "What is this?" "Medicine!" For Chef Elmy, food is the source of health. He values fresh ingredients and fresh cooking. He speaks the same: very directly.

As you can see in the image, he'll serve you a feast. The menu and what he serves will always be changing not only because the availability of fresh ingredients, but because for him this is the Art of Cooking, and art cannot stand still.

If you don't finish your food, it will upset him. But you will finish it, because it's really good! Come hungry.

Overall, Chef Elmy's cooking is a must...

10/10 food, service and atmosphere. The owner is very charismatic and prepares high quality meals using fresh ingredients. I was greeted with a bowl of soup of the day: Baby corn, bamboo shoot, spinach, and mushroom. I let them know it was my first time and they prepared their Gyro for me. The Gyro was very well made. It was 70% meat, which was well spiced and cooked, and 20% veggies and 10% flour wrap. The Gyro was not dry at all, on the contrary it was made with abdundant tahini and garlic sauce. The sides were very well made. I was given polenta topped with a freshly fried falafel, pickled jalapeños, and a small salad of Arugula, red cabbage, onion and bell peppers, which was lightly seasoned so as to accompany the Gyro but not overshadow it. Although I only had one falafel, it was moist, but well cooked, perfectly spiced and drenched in tahini sauce. Highly recommend this place!

What can I say? Chef Elmy is a legend. If you haven't yet, before you even touch the food, go read the Berkeleyside article that tells the saga of his life and then go inform the man that you are hungry with gusto. This is one of those places that even when I leave Berkeley I will always, always return to for as long as it exists. The truck with its frank, no bullshit opinions, the amazing, thoughtfully crafted food, and the gregarious man behind the counter serving you mango puree shots with a dollop of hot sauce make this place what it is. Chef Elmy's vision for what food should be and how it should be served with love and a dusting of attitude rings super loud and clear here. No one will ever complain that it costs too much for what it is, yet in my book an experience like this should be rated as if it were 3 Michelin stars. You just don't see places like this anymore.
