Swiches Coffee & Donuts — Restaurant in Berlin

I'd give this 5 stars if the manager/supervisor didn't ruin a good customer-to-server interaction while I was here. I came in with my partner & he had to use the bathroom before ordering food, so I greeted the server & interacted with him. But then his manager started telling him not to sweep or do cleaning tasks when "serving customers," even though she also knew I was waiting on my partner to order. She proceeded to just take the broom from him while blabbling her mouth, which made me feel even more uncomfortable & in turn, embarassed for the server. That conversation could have waited until we left. But nope, she had to go make it awkward for the server AND a paying customer. Customer interaction is an important part of food & drink service; therefore, if I interact well with servers & management, I'm going to enjoy the place more. But I felt embarrassed for the employee & incredibly awkward as a customer there, all thanks to a conversation that could have waited until they were in private. I was in the area and I wanted to grab donuts for our weekly movie night, and I didn't want Dunkin cause their food always tastes like a whisper of laundry that's been sitting in the washing machine too long. This place popped up on my google search and I was off on my treasure hunt for treats. It was easy to find, and parking wasn't bad, but I can imagine the weekends being crowded in the morning. The selection was extensive and they all looked fresh and delicious. I got chocolate frosted and glazed crawlers and they are exactly what I wanted, just the perfect treat, and great flavor. Having never been to Switches, I thought it would be a nice change to bring my kids to someplace other than the usual. It turns out that this was a good call. I ordered a pastrami rueben on toasted rye. The sandwich was served hot, with a good portion of meat, and enough kraut to complement without over taking. It could have used a bit more russian dressing; but, this understatement seemed a minor detail. My youngest had the hot meatball sub, that I felt compelled to sample. Wow! That was tasty and flavorful beef. The tomato sauce was tangy and plentiful as well. Easily ten year old approved. My eldest had the Italiano.
