Takoyaki Restaurant — Restaurant in Bessemer

I’ve been eating here for many years now. This is one of my wife’s favorite Asian restaurants, and definitely our favorite in McCalla. This is a family owned restaurant and the servers are always polite and professional, even if they are sometimes overwhelmed as customers seem to come in waves here.

The food is always good, and the hibachi express meals (pics attached) are always hot and fresh. Like most places lately, they have increased their prices but I doubt that can be helped. It’s still priced “in the ballpark” for hibachi and sushi places. One cool thing about this place is the wide variety of foods. In addition to a separate sushi menu with poke bowls and the hibachi, they offer Indonesian food on their menu, three curries (which have all been yummy), and Thom Kha Soup.

It’s kind of a small place, but they do have some uncovered outdoor seating. Since it’s tucked away in the corner of a shopping center, it’s usually pretty quiet there too. Good place for a relaxed date night or to bring the family.

The one negative is that they do use a sweet teriyaki sauce and a lot of things have a sweeter taste to them so, as someone who watches carbs, I have to be careful about what I order here…don’t get me wrong, it’s still good but it would be nice to have a less sweet version of the teriyaki...

Dissapointed came in from out of town looking for a bite to eat. Me and my lady are big sushi lovers. Have tried sushi from all over the country.

While I ordered from the kitchen my lady ordered for a poke bowl. It took about 20 min for my pork to arrive. Her food was still on the the way.

I like to eat together with my lady so I waited as I smashed my rice that came in a bowl shape I noticed a piece of super black curly hair literally 360 curl. My girl has blonde hair. Also mind you this is 10 minutes after they brought my food.

After he tells the chef, the chef pokes his head out to sneak a peak. Then the waiter comes back to inform us that the hair isn't the chef or the staff but they'll remake it anyway. Mind you my lady food was still not out.

I guess the 2 6 tops who came in after us were more important cause we were very quickly forgotten about

Lastly the carbonation on your pop machine is out and either needs to be refilled or fixed cause it tastes bad bad.

First, I ordered by phone 30 minutes before closing (I did ask if that was ok and they said yes of course). I arrived to a cute restaurant with friendly workers but I did not receive an itemized receipt, so I won’t be able to get reimbursed by my job for this meal. Boo!

Second, when I got back to my hotel two minutes away, I quickly began eating but the sushi was warm! Not room temp, warm! Gross! So I moved on to my veg tempura and was immediately disgusted (see photo) - I wanted to go back but the restaurant was already closing. This is NOT TEMPURA and I don’t think I would have eaten these “vegetables” at a burger place even if it was advertised as onion rings.

I revisited the sushi and realized the fish was slimy. Great, now I have to worry about food poisoning at my meeting tomorrow.

$26 for food they were probably getting ready to throw out. So sad. So...
