TLDR: DO NOT COME TO THIS RESTAURANT UNLESS YOU WANT SLOW AND INCONSIDERATE SERVICE EVEN WITH A RESERVATION!
My party of 4 (my husband and my two daughters) visited this restaurant for brunch on Sunday, April 7th, 2024 around 12:15 PM.
We were visiting from out of town and had made a reservation online two days prior (Friday) for Sunday at 12:30 for a party of 4. We didn't want to visit any "chain restaurants" that we could find back home and saw the great reviews of this place. What could possibly go wrong?
Turns out, EVERYTHING could go wrong! We arrived 15 minutes early hoping to let the hosts know to have our table ready for 12:30 PM, but the place was PACKED. We had also requested a booth so that we could more easily hear each other, but there were no booths available for our RESERVATION. One of the ladies offered to place us on a WAITLIST for up to 30 minutes, which was unacceptable to us. We booked ahead of time. The table should be ready without the need for a WAITLIST.
We eventually got seated at a "half-table, half booth" in the back of the restaurant and thought that our issues would finally be resolved. NOPE! At least the host was very friendly and tried apologizing for our situation. Once the host left, we sat around for a good 15-20 minutes before any server checked up on us. When we FINALLY got a server at our table, she had a rude look on her face as if she didn't want to be there and we were an inconvenience to her.
We placed our order and waited. And waited. And waited some more. The food took a long time to arrive (around 30 minutes), and it was mushy and cold. There was mold on the bread (and no apology from our server). We also requested refills several times of our drinks and she walked past us in a hurry and didn't come to our table to help us. She spent more time on her phone and talking to her coworkers than helping us.
We saw multiple staff members standing around talking and on their phones as well during the service instead of helping their customers. Eventually, another server who wasn't assigned to us came to help (bless him), but this was AWFUL! A manager did not even come out to help us either during this visit.
I know y'all were busy on that day, but this lack of service is INEXCUSABLE, especially considering the premium price point. I would strongly recommend NOT coming to this restaurant unless the staff and management gets their...
Read moreWe were in town for DC restaurant week and wanted to hit up a local Maryland place that has always been on our radar. The interior is very nice, which I noticed when I walked in. However, that first good impression was cut very short by the one of the hostesses' curt attitude. A very sharp "How can I help you?" with no eye contact, and a wave of her hand to point us to our table. She couldn't even be bothered to walk us to our seating, which was a booth for five people. We had to squeeze three people to one side, and had a hard time the entire night being able to freely eat. The place wasn't exceptionally packed, and I was curious as to why we were placed there instead of something with more elbow room.
Our server was lovely, and did her best to accommodate fitting dishes for five people onto the table. The food was pretty mediocre, which I was surprised by seeing how awarded this place was. The corn and crab chowder was too salty, while the brussels sprouts were not salty enough. We had to rely heavily on the dipping sauce in order to give it flavor. The fried chicken for the chicken mac and cheese was very tough and dry, and the scallops were a tad overcooked.
The milkshake was good, and so was the goat cheese bruschetta, tuna tartare, and smoked gouda burger. We skipped on dessert; we weren't too confident it would be enough to save this meal. We were trying to celebrate a new job for my sister but it was kind of overshadowed by us talking about the tight quarters and subpar food.
I hope their other location is a bit better, as I still have it on my...
Read moreWe had brunch on Sunday at 12PM. Reservations. Arrived a few minutes past noon and asked if we could sit outside. Host told us reservations are only for inside and there was a separate waiting list for outside. When we looked a little antsy, she went ahead and seated the two of us outside. Thanks.
Our server, Jackie, came to us promptly and we ordered two coffees, one decaf and one regular. She brought them quickly and the coffee was good. I believe it's Compass Coffee.
I ordered the plant-based "Sausage" Scrambler. Excellent. I'm not even vegetarian and everything was tasty. Main difference was really just the texture. The "sausage" was kind of like andouille. A bit spicy, which I love. Jackie allowed me to sub cilantro for the leeks and scallions and she made sure it was taken care of. Tomatoes were fresh and did seem roasted. Sauce was very good. "Nooch" is listed on the menu as an ingredient and I'm not sure exactly what it is--I think a type of yeast. I'm not sure how it tasted or added to the dish. The included fruit was succulent. Two slices of sourdough cut into halves were served with a pair of small Smart Balance containers. Perfect to spread on the bread and use the remaining two halves to sop up the remaining sauce.
The other person with me ordered the Ricotta+Lemon Curd Pancakes. She didn't eat the lemon curd because it was a bit too sweet for her, but we knew this ahead of time. Blueberries were fresh and were cooked inside the pancakes. So good.
Service was prompt and Jackie was friendly. Good people-watching, too....
