My group and I we attended this world of beer location for about five minutes. My girlfriend showed her ID which is from New Jersey and the server initially denied her but took it back to her manager who denied her. It is a real ID issued by the state of New Jersey. It is against constitutional law to deny the sovereignty of another state. The manager denied her ID. Not only did the deny her ID but they bent it all the way over and caused there to be a crease in her ID. Now, no one will take her ID seriously because there is a crease in her ID. She had to pay order a new one because of this managers negligence. He was not familiar with New Jersey's IDs even though his establishment was in Maryland, a state that should assume frequent business from people from New Jersey. He asked me if he denied a New Jersey ID and I told him he literally just did! He didn't even make note of the state of the ID he was just specially shown and DENIED. I told him to check any New Jersey ID because they make every one all the same way and he has probably seen and accepted other New Jersey IDs. Complete negligence. He also did not have a scanner and was obviously unable to tell the legitimacy of IDs from US states. This is appalling because he is running an establishment whose business model is centered around serving alcohol. It was an absurd disgrace. He confronted me for telling the server they should have a scanner, and I told all of the above to his face as I did the server. My party and I we would have easily spent $200 or more that night, but we took 100% of our business to Tommy Joes in Bethesda instead because of his embarrassing management. Tommy Joes has never given us any issues and has been extremely fun with patio seating, amazing servers and blunders, cheap prices, good and live music, and all around a nice, welcoming, friendly and funny crowd, good and cheap food and bar food. The location of world of beer does not know how to run a beer garden and is embarrassingly bad at what they claim to do well - serve alcohol. I would not attend this location ever again and I will continue to take all of my business to Tommy Joes when my group and I want to have some drinks on Friday nights. Do not go to world of beer and go yo Tommy Joes in Bethesda. ROLL TOMMY JOE
I'll just add, when we entered there was a chair in front of the main revolving door to perturb people from entering. Amazing treatment of clientele! We had to enter through a side door and other patrons had to open the door for us! Very uninviting. The only highlight was one other server who helped, out of his way, helped us to seat us at a table that was out of his section just because it was big enough to fit our party of 8. Good on that server. He was the only employee in our experience adding something positive and enjoyable to the experience. He was great. Not the server who served us and...
Read moreI usually get my food to go, fish and chips or shrimp dinner… I live nearby and frequently order at this location in Bethesda. The ONE STAR isn’t for the food but for the service from a particular bartender. On more than one occasion have I encountered bad customer service from the bartender, Peter, I believe, dark hair with a beard. He never acknowledges me until I ask for assistance. Once I even asked if he was having a bad day. I have mentioned him to a server once because I wanted the tip to go to the server and not him because of his rudeness. My most recent order through Grubhub wasn’t like my usual order so the manager said to come in for a replacement order. When I went to pickup the order, Peter, the bartender- just handed me the Togo order and walked off -- no hello or did I need anything else etc. I had a tip to give him since it was a replacement order which was a nice gesture.. I said hello I want to give you a tip. He looked at me and walked by. I stood at the bar for a short while. Even checked my food. Not one word.. I even called and asked for a manger. He got on the phone and I asked him- if he had an issue with me because I can’t understand why he is so unprofessional and rude. I have never had an issue with any of the servers or managers. All very polite and professional. Just him. He has Horrible customer service skills. I’m never rude to him or anyone in the restaurant, so there is no excuse. This actually makes me no longer want to order from World of Beers.
Update to my first review of 1 star ::: I was contacted by the manager, who was very polite and understanding and spoke with the worker. I appreciated that he actually reached out as well as took the time to listen to my concerns and hear out the employee as well. I have recently returned to the location and the employee had great customer service and my experience was completely different from the other...
Read moreMy son and I visited the restaurant on 11/30 to use a reward before it expired. I told the hostess that we didn't need menus because we were only getting dessert. Our server arrived at our table without a greeting, he simply stated "so you're only using your reward." I ordered the salted caramel cookie skillet which according to the menu has NUTS; my son who has a severe nut allergy and I knew this fact, but the waiter did NOT! I asked him three times if it had nuts and each time he responded with "no nuts." He sat the dessert on the table without saying a word and walked off. I immediately stopped a different server who was walking by and requested to speak with the manager who was apathetic and looked like he had just rolled out of bed (very unkept). I began eating the dessert and after one bite, our waiter came to our table and removed the dessert stating, "it does have almonds." I pulled the skillet back and told him that I was the only one eating it. In this day and time, it is imperative that restaurant staff KNOW if a menu item has nuts or not. Before we left the waiter offered a half assed apology and gave us a $10 off $30 coupon for our next visit. Horrible service from...
