House of Foong Lin — Restaurant in Bethesda

I was visiting Bethesda for an event so I stopped in here for a quick bite. Immediately I was struck by the cool interior. The inside is decked out in a tropical theme, and the whole place is lit by cool colors. They also had smooth jazz playing in the background, which was very pleasant to listen to. I provided pictures of their cool bar and a fancy table for examples. They really hit the atmosphere out of the park.

I wasn’t super hungry, so I ordered an appetizer. I ordered the crunchy spicy chicken wings for around 10 dollars. They had a really big menu, but most dishes ranged from 14 to 30 dollars.

The chicken itself tasted very good and had a nice level of spice. My only problem was how they prepared it. I provided a picture, but all the wings were cut in half with the bone showing. I don’t know what the purpose was, but it made for a clunky experience. Some pieces would have a lot of meat, and other wouldn’t. It didn’t ruin the meal, but it was certainly strange.

The owner is extremely nice and his team works very hard. They were super busy the whole time but still made sure to provide professional and personal service to everyone. I felt very welcomed and had a great time because of it.

I would recommend this place for dinner with the family or coworkers. The food tastes good, the service is good, and you shouldn’t miss out on that sweet...

I encountered my first unequal treatment at this restaurant on 6/28/24. My family of 6 entered the restaurant and asked to be seated. We were asked if we had a reservation. We said no. The hostess acted as if reservations were a requirement, but there were other customers that arrived that were not asked if they had reservations. After an extended period of time and a conversation between the host and who appeared to be the Manager, we were seated at a table for 5! Now this was after we walked past, at the very least, 3 tables for 6! We were told they would bring another chair to our table for 5, but never did! We took a chair from another empty table, of which there were many, to allow for the standing member of our party to sit. We were rudely served by a waiter, who filled our water glasses, but never came back to take our order and instead waited on the tables around us multiple times! We decided to leave and told the hostess and manager that we believed we had been mistreated. I also informed the Manager that I had been there many times with co workers and had never been treated in this manner. I won't be back, nor will I encourage other African Americans to patronize...

I had the worst Chinese food experience in this restaurant. We ordered egg roll and kung pao chicken. Egg roll had some red chunks of meat when cut open. We asked if it has any meat in it? One rude asian lady said it has beef. We then said her we are unaware that an egg roll has beef, otherwise we wouldn’t order it. Because we dont eat beef due to religious reasons. She suddenly raised her voice and almost shouted on us saying “if you dont know, you should ask”. I mean, come on, how the hell I expect an egg roll has beef in it? Also, why the hell its not mentioned in the menu card? We just couldn’t touch it. The Kung pao chicken was like a sweet n sour chicken. We had it in different Chinese restaurants and we know how it actually tastes. This was not a kung pao chicken. They didn’t even show courtesy not to add the egg roll in bill. On top of all, I did have to pay tip for a food which was utter dissatisfaction. I would never visit this restaurant and never recommend to anyone.
