I'll keep it a buck Haaz's is the best late-night food I have ever had in the Lehigh Valley by such a considerable margin as to be incomparable to anywhere else nearby. Historically; I've been able to enjoy similarly-good food at off hours but it is typically rare & localized to urban commuting corridors eg: Annapolis/the DMV Beltway; Providence RI; Queens NY etc etc.
What I've never experienced over more than 30 years of dining out is a restaurant getting their act together; so quickly, and to such an impressive degree, immediately upon opening.
Please allow me to provide some context for this comment. I've been visiting Haaz's over the past 6 months approximately 20-25 times by my estimate.
Initially; I was seeking a half-decent cheesesteak, was interested in the Hot Chicken conception in West Bethlehem, and needed to find a reliable option for eating after 9:00p as I would be working nights for the considerable future.
In April/May of this past year, I visited the restaurant and had an incredible first few experiences. Service was attentive & lively; food was exceptional. I had a burger that was so good I actually cried eating it in the parking lot & the first time I had the Chipotle Cheesesteak I actually couldn't stop inhaling it. Phenomenally good food - properly seasoned! Fresh & made with care; consistently.
Visits 3, 4, 5 ... I had some of the worst takeout food I have ever encountered, including a Chicken & Waffles made so spicy as to be completely inedible I literally took one bite and threw the entire platter directly into the trash can. Which actually causes me physical pain I'm so averse to doing it. Anyway...
Visit 6, or potentially 7 .... I was having a very challenging day. To summarize an already-long story, there was a mistake made during my calling an order in and this issue (it was a non-issue) was remedied before the food I had requested was even bagged out. An apology was already ready to go, and my order was given to me with a smile and a complimentary cup for a drink.
I - completely lost my shit - on the front end manager & asked them to relay the feedback I gave to both the service team as well as ownership. It was not good feedback.
Big, BIG shout outs to Jose & Kiyanah (I hope I didn't completely butcher your name you're each lovely!) out of my little tantrum. Here's specifically why:
They may not know this & nobody cares but I've worked in restaurants & foodservice for awhile. I'm also a complete psycho and have some strange habits ... several times, I would pick up food at close and eat it on the curb outside. Just hungry & tired and wanted to sit down for a second and that seemed like the best place to do it.
I've watched those two professionals close out full dining rooms, complete all of their closing tasks in support of the rest of the staff and with smiles, and diligently & conscientiously clean every surface of the dining areas by themselves after close time.
Having worked retail as well as restaurant industry; this degree of devotion to the Close is just unheard of. It's exceptional. I'd even go so far as to say it flies fully in the face of what I've observed near every other business doing operationally which is trying to squeeze their margins out by milking their labor pool that much harder - bottom rung first.
I don't know the political or economic structure of the Haaz's team. I do, unequivocally know that the Chipotle Cheesesteak slaps & that I've had the best mixed platters I've ever gotten anywhere from Haaz's served at like 11:30p at night.
I also know in my soul ... that Ive seen, every time I've since visited again, every single point of criticism I made being amply and selflessly put into application!
These people don't need me to act up to do their jobs to an incredibly polished degree. They already had this going on long before I entered the picture.
But I want to acknowledge it in gratitude. It's thankless work. It's difficult work. The customer base can be incredibly difficult to serve humbly. The hours are rough.
They're killing...
Read moreThe service at this restaurant is horrendous. I purchased a gift card for my dad for Christmas. When presented, the two employees were could not figure out how to process the gift card. They took my phone and were showing people the original email I received in the kitchen and no one could help. They told me that the gift card probably could only be used online. I have never heard of a gift card only being using online. That just doesn’t make sense. I asked if I could speak to a manager to get this resolved and the guy, who clearly is not trained as he had to ask multiple people how to ring things in, told us he was the manager. He also pressured us to change our order to get the special they were offering that day and then proceeded to tell us we couldn’t use that with our “discount” code, which I was a gift certificate. They were really rude and wouldn’t assist us with our gift card problem. A line was forming and we told them we would just pay with money instead and I would email the customer service email that I had already been in contact with when purchasing the card. Our food was prepared and they just set it on the counter for us to come grab. Five other tables had come in and after us and every single one of them, they delivered their food to their table. Not sure why we weren’t given the same courtesy. I have sent numerous emails regarding the gift card and have received no response. I will be disputing the charge for the gift card and never returning to...
Read moreFirst, customer service was top notch. Each person I dealt with was very respectful and accommodating. Second, place was clean and had a great vibe. Music was on point Third, most important, the food was amazing. Ordered the chicken and waffles. Chicken fingers and fries. And the loaded fries. Also order a biscoff milkshake. Fourth, price. It was pricey for a few items but it was worth trying. Fifth, options. I wish they would offer some sort of salad on their menu to accommodate those in our party who don’t want to be as much big backers. I often crave salads as well and would love to be able to get one w all their toppings.
The chicken and waffles were amazing ! The waffle was perfectly cooked. My daughter order the fingers and fries and didn’t like the fingers due to a Smokey taste. She did get the mild and is huge into spicy things but couldn’t get around the smoky flavor. She loved the fries The loaded fries had burger patties on top w onions. White and hot sauce. Cheese jalapeño and so much goodness I want to go for another one just typing this. ASK FOR THEIR HAAZ SAUCE ! This t is amazing ! The biscoff milkshake was really good but I found to be expensive at $6 so I don’t think I’ll be buying again 😫 They have amazing refreshers (w/o caffeine) I will...
