Needed an alternative to Vic's, which, though pricier, has very good NYC/NJ style bagels. Googled, read a few reviews and made the longer trek to this place. I liked the appearance well enough...wasn't too crowded. I went with a breakfast sandwich Tayor ham egg (white) salt, pepper, ketchup on an everything bagel. The girl took my order and proceeded to go prep the order herself...apparently, they have a system where several people work the counter and then they each go back to stations to make the order themselves. Kind of weird, but I guess it works. So, I'm watching, and to my horror, I see the people prepping putting eggs in clear containers made of thin plastic (like they might use for putting cream cheese to-go) and then putting them into microwaves! Plastics contain toxic substances that can leech into the food when heated, especially in microwaves. I was stunned and felt like requesting my order be cooked on a grill or at least microwaved on a ceramic plate or something rather than plastic, but I just got my order and left...I figured one sandwich wouldn't kill me, so I actually used a napkin to wipe down the egg (cleaning off residual toxins) the best I could and ate it. They forgot the ketchup and I didn't see any pepper either. The ham had no browning or grill marks as that was likely cooked in the microwave too. The sandwich tasted OK but I will not come back to this place for anything that needed to be prepared in this manor. I would suggest that they either get a grill to cook these orders or, if they must use microwaves, they should use ceramic/corelle type plates/bowls instead of the plastic containers. If they did one of these things, I'd probably order again.
Aside from that issue, the place seemed half decent. The bagels are good and LOADED with the toppings, which is great, but they lack that kind of shiny crust an authentic NY/NJ bagel has from proper parboiling. The deli setup with Boar's Head looks good, the baked goods looked great, the coffee was good. Prices were reasonable. If I do go back, it won't be for...
Read moreThis place has amazing bagel sandwiches. When I'm visiting my partner, I always try to stop by and get a new and interesting combination.
This time, I ordered a breakfast bagel. I can not, seriously, CAN NOT recommend the French Toast bagel more. It truly makes a full-fledged breakfast sandwich come to life. Everything else on my sandwich was cooked to perfection: soft, fluffy eggs, perfectly melted cheese, crispy - NOT floppy - bacon ... and their cream cheeses? Always winners in my book. I got a tub of garlic and herb to go. However, I would LOVE for them to bring back their peanut butter cream cheese. That was my top favorite!!
My only concern was that I felt very in the way when trying to place an order, as there were tons of people inside. However, that blame doesn't go on them. They were closed for over a week, and I went in the day after reopening. Staff did everything they could to get everything as it needed to be, and they delivered. MAJOR props to all of you for rocking it!! Seeing that many people really shows how much you do to make a bagel shop pop off!
Trust me when I say I'll be back the next time I'm in...
Read moreIt's a small little shop we found when we were gonna pull into a big chain convenience store. This deli is worth a detour if you're coming down this road. $4.24 for a bagel with cream cheese is an incredible price nowadays, especially with the variety of bagels and cream cheeses to pair together. Me and my partner tried their French toast bagel with pumpkin cream cheese and it was incredible. A soft bagel with a sweet, creamy cinnamon taste topped with crumble that explodes with cinnamon sugar goodness. While I'm not a fan of cream cheese personally, I couldn't have enough of the pumpkin cream cheese. All of their cream cheese flavors are available for purchase for personal use as well. They have a coffee shop vibe and bright smiles. As a deli, they have boars head lunch meat that they pair with whatever bagel works best. A great menu with amazing variety. I highly recommend taking the time to come to this place and trying something from...
