From now on, we will route through Big Spring whenever we travel north from home because of this restaurant - it's honestly that amazing. If they were within 100 miles of us, we would eat here every time we go out to eat. Food: this is true Tex-Mex - exactly the kind we grew up with for 60 years! I had The Mexican Plate. Those of you who grew up on this menu will know exactly what that means. Actual tacos, by the way, not some preformed nonsense. And, yes, those refried beans are the real deal, none of that soupy, fatless cardboard. Oh, and remember ranchero sauce?!? Yanno, the version with heat instead of an overload of sugar?? Yes, and YES! Don't get me started on the margaritas ... let's just say they are for adults, made like a classic with tequila, limes, and orange liquor. My husband was equally pleased with the Tex Plate, an old favorite combination of cheese enchiladas covered with sauce and topped with eggs. Service: it was almost like being at a friend’s home, so friendly, courteous, and kind. We were treated with respect and like people. Everyone put their hearts and souls into this place and it showed in every aspect. Ambiance: even though it was 98 degrees outside, we sat on the shaded patio with our beloved dog. It's difficult to find a nice place to eat with outdoor seating when we are traveling and it's too hot to leave the dog in the truck. Not only did they welcome us and our sweet dog, but they were as solicitous of and attentive to her as they were to us. So, while I can only speak to the convenience and welcome respite of the patio, I have absolutely no doubt the interior was equally accommodating and lovely. In summary, if I could give this place 20 stars, it...
Read moreAWFUL.! Please read!!!! This place is soooooo disgusting! I had just gotten off work from a long job and took my mother here to eat and it was the worst decision! First we get there and there is nobody around no consumers , no staff. So we stand there for a bit before assuming we seat ourselves. Well after that a staff member comes up to me saying you know there was a wait list right? I said oh no I’m so sorry I can get up if you need and she just rolled her eyes then walked away. It took 10 minutes for anyone to ask what we wanted to drink then another 20 minutes to get the drinks. Then 20 minutes later somebody asked what we would like to eat so we ordered I also ordered some queso which then took another 20 minutes to come which one was supposed to have jalapeños in it and it did not but that’s not even the bad part it was SOOOOOOOO greasy that grease was literally over pouring onto the plate underneath the bowl! I place my spoon in it and was pouring grease out! Then about another 30 minutes later our food finally comes (almost an hour after ordering) and the food was also soooo greasy and just tasted disgusting I looked over and asked my mom how her food was and her actual words were “Taco Bell’s is better” we didn’t even eat our food we just left. Aside from the food and wait time being just awful the staff was incredibly rude. Our plates and food were just tossed on the table as she walked by without even stopping! If I could give less than a star...
Read moreThis is a Mexican restaurant which is hailed to be one of the old establishments and a landmark.
I am an Indian origin physician who lived in Dallas for 15 years and recently moved to Big spring. It is possible I am still comparing establishments her with the ones in Dallas. What I found was significant informality( lack of professionalism) The parking lot was not properly paved or lighted big SUV and Pickups were parked helter skelter in front of the restaurant. There was no host at the entrance. the bar tender looked up after we waited for few minutes and waved his hand telling us to go sit at the table next to the window.
after a 5 minute wait a lady comes in with some menus and takes our drink order and disappears. 3 3 or 4 minutes later another lady comes to us asking what we would like to drink. We tell her we already ordered with the other waitress. our first waitress yells from near the bar " I've got it" the food was just average The place is mainly for single males working in oil fields it looks like.
A little bit more sensitivity for multiculturalism and a professional training and minimal conveniences like a paved well lighted parking area a hostess who knows what she is doing and clear instructions on who is serving which tables would go a long way to make this a...
