I haven’t been the most consistent customer at Roast since it opened around 2017, but I decided to try it again because I am incredibly disappointed with the quality of lattes at pretty much every place in downtown Birmingham. And honestly? I was pleasantly surprised. I got the Golden Joy with Oatmilk and less sweet. It was smooth and creamy with creme brulee infused milk. The color was gorgeous, a warm golden brown which is what you want your latte to look like, and it tasted just as yum. It wasn’t too acidic or too dark roast like Commonwealth. I also love the cute latte names (like Kuppa Joy) and how they put effort into fun seasonal specials. The only gripe I have is I wish they kept the old recipe of the GF Almond Butter bar. It was richer, thick, and gooey. But the baristas are kind, the interior is always cozy and clean, and the coffee is consistent. I will get...
Read moreServing people is no longer a business priority when the employees want to leave right on the dot. When you say your kitchen closes at 4pm that usually means they start closing at 4pm not we have been closed for 30 mins before. Unwilling to take of customers like this when you have a cafe full of people is precisely how you don’t last with the times. I’ll never come back to places that don’t value customer service like this spot. Best of luck.
Reply Edit; I got there 2 mins before 4pm. I have owned many businesses and when you have a customer show up a few mins before closing you accommodate that customer. At least if you want to survive. There is a reason why you don’t have a 4.9 star. Strive to be better not complacent. That’s the difference between a good business and a great business that will be around for a very long...
Read moreFood and drinks are great, atmosphere is good, it's really small inside. The one in royal oak is more roomy. It seems like some of the staff just doesn't care, seem a bit haughty, not all, but some. Picking up an order is nearly a hassle they either just stare at you or ignore you. When my order says it's time for pickup it takes another 5-10 min just to get it out. The last time I came here was the last time. Ordered an iced matcha ahead of time and took another 15 min just to get it out when I got the text saying it was ready. I waited a bit cause they were busy but after a while I said something at least twice. Just for a matcha? Come on. All I got was a cheeky smile and a half assed "we'll get that out for you". It was a little busy but nothing chaotic, but I understand customers won't see what goes on...
