This place was very busy and loud tonight but there were a few different parties going on.
The tap list was a bit above average in length, but I was disappointed that most of the taps were 'seasonal' so they didn't list exactly what it was. I'm not good at recognizing tap handles, and because it was loud, it was hard to hear our waitress when she listed them off.
We had the bison skewers for an appetizer and they were very good. Well seasoned/cooked and the chimichuri sauce on the side was delicious. My wife ordered an ND Night Train (rhubarb wine cocktail) which she enjoyed. It was tart and boozy, but very drinkable. I ordered a draft beer after trying a couple of complimentary samples.
For the main course my wife ordered the hangar steak with (her choice) Bearnaise sauce and blue cheese au gratin potatoes on the side. I ordered the seared tuna. The steak was ordered medium but came out rare, almost blue. We're not super picky, so we can't comment on how the waitress/kitchen handled this, we just ate it. And it was exactly what we've come to expect from this cut of meat. It was tender, well seasoned and the Bearnaise sauce was savory and a great complement. I thought the cauliflower was a touch under-cooked (slightly crunchy, where I would've preferred it more tender). Her au gratin potatoes were very rich and flavorful, the best I've ever had.
You may have noticed me commenting on her meal quite a bit, and that's because I ate about 1/3 of it. My seared tuna meal, while tasty, was a bit of a 'lighter' portion than I was expecting for the price. I feel a 20-25% larger piece of tuna would be more appropriate. That said, the meal was good. I've been trying to find a place that sears tuna as well as the one I had in Hawaii this summer, and unfortunately my search continues. The vegetables were cooked perfectly (tender crisp bell peppers and mushrooms, mmm) and a generous side of moist, white rice.
Overall, we're planning to come back again and try their burgers for a more budget conscious meal in the near future. We might try and choose a...
Read moreOverall, not a BAD restaurant. Just a few things that disappointed me. First the starter we ordered, The Wine Lover's Companion, the menu said it came with smoked burrata. I've had burrata before and I was really excited to try a smoked version. After poking around the board to find the burrata it wasn't there. I asked the server what cheese was on the board and in place of the burrata it was white cheddar. We weren't notified of of the substitution when we placed the order or received it. Quite bummed they tried to slip something totally unexpected on the board instead.
The salads we ordered were good. Again, not WOW; but good. I wish there were some variety to the bed of greens the salads came with. The dill vinaigrette on the beet salad was amazing; but I wish the pieces of chicken on the Smoked Chicken and Cherry salad were bigger. They were just small balls, smaller than a pea, that look like someone took the cooked chicken and rubbed it in between their hands instead of shredding it. Also could have sworn the menu said the sweet potato puree had a toasted/torched marshmallow topping; but came out with just a scoop of the topping and no toasty-ness. But maybe I misread that.
All in all, it was kind of pricey for a dinner that seemed more half-hearted and thrown together than thought through and carefully...
Read moreI was recently there with a big party of about 16 people. Most of the service was good and we had a great time, although something I had never seen happen in a restaurant-bar in my entire life left a bit of a sour taste on the otherwise lovely evening. One of the drinks that a woman in our group ordered was- quite honestly, not great, not good at all. She kindly told the waiter her drink was not what she expected and he rudely responded “we can’t remake it and we can’t take it off your tab!!”. What? In any case, I would expect the waiter to ask about it, care for what she didn’t like, maybe offer a solution? Or at least not be so rude that most of the table stopped what they were doing given his loud response. I’ve worked at a bar, my family has owned restaurants and I have been to countless bars myself. And EVERY place will immediately replace your drink or offer to make a different one OR at the very least, take constructive feedback. (It’s not like a loop to get free drinks, just one remake and quality service) The tab for our group came close to $800, a $12 drink would not have made a difference, but the situation, the way it was handled and the principle around a $3 loss (out of pocket price for the restaurant) was honestly sad, distasteful and in my experience, unprecedented poor...
