Green's Grill & Sushi Bar — Restaurant in Blacksburg

I understand the students are back and things are crazy, which is why I ordered ahead (over 2 hours) to be sure they had time to make the food and have it all ready to go.

I hadn’t eaten here in years, and don’t remember it being a stellar experience, just alright. The price was pretty excessive for the quality and wait.

So when I ordered ahead yesterday I got a couple things I imagined couldn’t really be messed up- a burger for my son and falafel for myself, with edamame and sweet potato fries to share. I arrived slightly early (~10 mins) and expected to wait, but my bag was ready. The autofill changed my name to my goofy dumb name on here, but we figured it out. I got to my car and put the bag down. Hadn’t had anything to eat all day at work so I got the fries out. I took one bite and put them back.

The fries were wet and soggy. I honestly don’t understand how. The ketchup cup was melted, literally, just melted. The falafel was wet and gooey, and there were only 2 falafel in a full sized flat bread, along with 3-4 pieces of very soggy warm bagged lettuce. I was sold on falafel because it was supposed to feature pickled onions- which it didn’t have even regular onions. The sauce (and the whole thing) was flavorless to the point I was honestly scared I could have covid- nothing had any salt or flavor to it (I tasted some other things in my house and sure enough- I do have a sense of taste. thank god)

My son said his burger was very bland and boring, said it was edible but he wouldn’t eat there again.

The edamame was cold and undercooked, the shells showed no signs of steaming or browning or anything showing it was cooked. They had no salt crystals on top. we couldn’t get the edamame to pop out of the pods without a knife until we resteamed them.

The aforementioned fries plus the rest make me wonder if they ran out of key ingredients (salt, onions, sauce) and still fulfilled the order. Also, really wondering if my order was accidentally cooked when I placed it and was put under a heat lamp for 2+ hours (which would explain the fully melted ketchup cup and wet soggy fries).

I’m not writing this place off forever, but Id worry to eat anything time sensitive (quality and food safety wise) like sushi or any meat from here, especially when they are overwhelmed with students (so… almost always?). I might try to eat here again some time but the price and flavor left a bad taste in my mouth this time around.

So we decided on this place on reviews. It had a good rating. We did not see why. So when we walked in it was unclear if you seat yourself or if they seat you so we stood there for about 4 minutes before we were told what we were supposed to be doing. We pick a table and sat down.

So the waiter comes over we order our drinks everything seemed fine. We ordered a side salad with sesame ginger dressing. The waiter didnt even know they had that dressing. We also ordered the Alaska roll, spicy tuna roll, b n j roll and the katia roll. We also ordered saki. According to the menu these sounded amazing.

So to detail the salad to dressing ratio way off. I wound up not having dressing on half my salad. They brought out the sushi and this was were things became disappointing. The sushi was poorly rolled and just kinda fell appart. None of the rolls had flavor. The fish was not good quality at all. I asked for extra yum yum sauce and they charge an extra dollar per additional sauce. I found that ridiculous considering the cup of sauce they gave you to begin with was only half full.

The saki we ordered had floating food paricles in it. We had to ask for a new one and instead of being shocked it seemed like this was a common issue ?

The kitchen, that we did not see till we went to the bathroom and had already ate, was gross. There was just things everywhere. Like they werent cleaning the kitchen as the food was made so like cross contamination was for sure happening.

I will not be going back here. This was a day trip and I'm not from this area. When we go here on day trips and we always pick a place based on reviews. I would not pick this place again if I could have had a do over.

Over all I'm sure the American menu probably has good food on it however the sushi portion was not the best. Overall experience was not good.

Total came out to be 54 dollars and change. I feel like that is a pretty fair price for what we ordered if it had actually been...

Giving two stars because their food is really great but was recently very disappointed in the service or lack there of. I’ve been getting food from them for years. It’s also super convenient that they deliver which is how I typically got food from them. I hadn’t eaten inside in a long time and a friend and I ate there this past week. There were two tables of two that sat down at the same time (my friend and I and another table). The other table was instantly greeted by a server, given menus, silver wear, had drinks ordered. We were given menus and the menus were sticky and crusty and honestly just gross. we were given our drinks but we waited so long to order the other table had got their food, and another table of four was seated, got their drinks and got their appetizers before we were even approached by a server to order. These other tables also were literally right next to us too, and the servers had to literally pass us to get to those tables every time. We even tried to catch a server but it’s like as soon as they left a table blinders went up and it was impossible to get their attention. When we were actually able to order and our food came to us the food was sat down and the server basically ran away so I had to follow him to get silver wear. Both “servers” who were working were both constantly texting the entire time we were there and one even went out side to smoke right at the front door didn’t even move out of the over hang so if any customers were going to come in or out at that time they would have had to walk through his smoke. They weren’t slammed but still pretty steady inside. We did get our food quickly and the food was great. Actually tried some new stuff on the menu I hadn’t had before and was really pleasantly surprised. The servers just seemed like they just didn’t care about us, and it left a bad taste in my mouth.
