My partner and I were so excited to see that Hefun has finally opened, especially since we've been waiting for a good ramen shop to open in Blacksburg! We went in today for dinner and had a very pleasant experience. As they have just opened, they are running off a "Soft Opening" menu, meaning there are limited options (we thought there was plenty already but can't wait to see what else will be coming out). We both ordered sushi, ramen, and boba tea. I had the Spicy Tuna Roll, Hefun Tonkatsu Ramen (pork), and Black Milk Tea with boba, while my partner had the Rainbow Roll, Shio Ramen (chicken), and Chai Milk Tea with boba and caramel cold foam. The sushi was on par with Ocean Samurai's sushi in terms of taste and preparedness (good, but not the best). The ramen, however, was exactly what we were looking for. Warm, rich, flavorful broth with delicious toppings and perfectly cooked noodles that filled to soul with happiness and content! We were talking about how excited we are to come back when the weather gets super chilly and the snow starts to fall just to have a bowl of Hefun's delicious ramen to warm us up. The boba was really good as well as it wasn't overwhelmingly sweet, creamy, or overpowering with flavorings, although the boba pearls could've been cooked a little longer as they were still hard in the middle. For service, we waited to be seated for a few minutes and were then seated in the corner of the restaurant. Our specific table was very dimly lit, but we did not mind too much. The atmosphere of the restaurant was fairly cozy but clearly busy, slightly scrambled even, behind the counters/bar, although that can be chalked up to the restaurant opening only a few days ago. All the staff was very kind, understanding, and willing to accommodate to any needs or requests. My ramen actually came out missing the chashu that was promised with the dish, but our waitress very quickly brought some out on the side and apologized for any inconvenience. We were very pleased with all the staff we interacted with. Our only complaint lies within some of the prices. Our ramen bowls were large and very filling and costed around $15 dollars per bowl, a very reasonable price that we are more than happy to pay again. The sushi and boba, however, were a bit of a different story. As mentioned earlier, the sushi was very average (definitely better than grocery store sushi, but nothing about the ingredients or presentation scream "high quality"). $13 for the Spicy Tuna and $14 for the Rainbow Roll was a bit much for traditional rolls, especially considering the Rainbow Roll was filled with more cucumber than crab. For our drinks, the base price for the milk tea was about $5 per drink, but all toppings, including boba, were an extra dollar. To us, that seemed overpriced as we were given our drinks in 10oz glasses that were filled with mostly ice. We asked the waitress if there were free refills that come with the price to which the answer was "no". She took a look at our cups and realized that we were given the wrong sizes and very graciously provided us with a correctly sized cup (16oz) of milk tea with boba to compensate for the mistake. While we appreciated the gesture greatly, the drink was still comprised of mostly ice. I personally will be purchasing sushi and boba elsewhere (Sushi Factory, best boba and sushi in the area by far), but will absolutely be coming back for the ramen. All in all, we were very pleased with the overall experience and cannot wait for the full menu to be put into effect. This place is off to a great start! Good luck to the staff!!

Great option for downtown Blacksburg! Visiting again this town and ended up here for lunch on a Sunday. The service was great, quick and very cordial, for a table of 7 and the order was all correct. We tried Pork Gyozas, Takoyaki and Edamame to start. The Gyozas were pretty good, but I think the Takoyaki was short on flavor, perhaps a bit more Takoyaki sauce and mayo on top was required. For mains couple of ones from the menu that you see in the pictures. The only one dish that did not fully satisfy one of us was the Shoyu Ramen (3.5/5.0), the broth and chicken were just ok. On the other hand the Hefun Tokontsu Ramen was pretty good and the chashu pork was well done. The dish came with enough of it, I ordered extra chashu but I don't think it was necessary. Overall a good experience and this place is certainly one of the better ones in this town. Give it a try!

This jewel in Blacksburg is a family favorite. We very typically order food to go and take it home because during the evening hours or weekend this area is quite crowded and parking can be a chore to find. The other day we came through midday for lunch and decided to eat in. What an absolute delight. The restaurant is tidy, the gal serving us was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. I love it when people have input to share! We got the hefun tonkotsu and the katsudon. Both were large portion sizes and mouth watering good. I also really appreciated that they have a pitcher of ice water set out on the table for you to partake of at your leisure. Thanks for a wonderful experience!

I'm so glad Hefun finally opened and I am happy to report that I had an amazing meal there! First of all the restaurant is really cool inside. Whoever is responsible for the decor did a great job. I am amazed at all of the little extra touches the owners included to make this restaurant special. Some of the really cool things are: interesting napkin holders on the table, nice soy sauce containers and spoon rests, the REALLY nice wooden spoons/ladles for ramen broth (where can I get some of these for my own house?) , and even the to-go food containers. All of these things are much nicer than you usually see at a typical restaurant. All of the these extra little touches make Hefun feel very inviting and special.

My food was amazing, especially the ramen. It was so good that i ordered a few more items in the middle of my meal so I could have them for lunch the next day. My server told me that the restaurant brought their chefs from China and Japan. I was really impressed with the quality of the ingredients and how fresh and tasty my food was. Hefun definitely does not cut any corners in bringing diners an excellent experience.

I went during Hefun's soft opening and everything was still excellent. They had been slammed the night before and said they are still working out some kinks, so please be patient during their soft opening. The service was really friendly and efficient and everyone who works there is so nice. All of the staff were genuinely glad to see me and grateful that I was a customer.

Hefun is a great addition to downtown Bburg and I hope everyone will support it. Not sure how the prices here compare to similar restaurants, but the quality of the ingredients and my dining experience were well worth the price I paid.

I think it is really important that we support quality restaurants like this. The owners took a real chance opening this place and making it so nice. I hope everyone who finds this review helpful will support Hefun so it is there to enjoy for years to come.

I live over 2 hours away and only visit Blacksburg a few times a month, so I am definitely not being compensated in any way for this review. The only benefit I get is that Hefun is hopefully still there and thriving the next time...

So wish Blacksburg could have some really good authentic Japanese food but alas this is not it. Not high quality ingredients or flavorful food. Most of the food has MSG in it. Difficult to get the staff to let us know what we could eat that didn't have it. All of the soup bases have it even the miso. Seaweed salad too. Sadly, I do not tolerate MSG as it is a neurotoxin and makes me extremely ill. I ended up ordering the beef rice bowl but had to forgo the miso which was included but no substitution was allowed. The meat was scarce and tough with a price tag of $15.99. Even the rice wasn't very good. Entrees are overpriced for what you get, particularly the drinks. Boba teas don't actually include Boba unless you request them specifically and then you have to pay extra for it. Those start at $5.50 and then add $1 extra for the boba tapioca balls. Have to say everything in our group of six was disappointed with the meal and we won't be returning. The ramen noodles aren't very good for those in our group who were able to try them. Overall it was meh and I felt a bit ill afterwards, sorry but I really whad high hopes that it...
