I have been a loyal Hinkle's customer for years.. I remember in early childhood of the 70's visiting with my Grandfather... It has always stuck with me how much I loved those burgers to this day...
I agree the staff is rude, however what some of these comments fail to realize is that it is NOT a mean rude...It is a sarcastic rude... It is simply the staff being so laid back and knowing their customer base so well that they can be sarcastic and have fun... Janie always gave me hell because I never want onions on my burger... It was part of the Hinkle's experience...
Every time I walk in every person on staff knows my order... 2 doubles only salt, pepper, and pickles cooked well done... Even though I visit maybe once every 3 weeks so to me when you deal with 2000 customers a week and you still remember everyone that says a lot there... What's even cooler is even though my name is Matt and they know that, they still call me by the nickname they gave me Papa John...
You have great Burgers out there such as 5 Guys, Wendy's, etc etc... But nothing can beat a homemade burger from Hinkle's where the meat is ground fresh every day... All the big franchises have expanded so much that in a lot of cases the quality of the burger has suffered, however Hinkle's has stuck to a single concept and it has paid off for over 70 yrs... Keep It Stupid Simple... The simplicity of their menu is what keeps the flavor quality so high...
In my opinion the only place I can find a better burger is the burgers I make at home...
Deb and her staff are amazing people, and they serve an amazing burger...
Again thanks to the Hinkle's team for the best burgers in Bloomington...

Read moreIf McDonald’s was fresh ... it would taste like Hinkles. This place is the cudi gra of the classic WW2/ 1950’s era mom and pop burger shop. I cannot say enough about this burger so I’m going to break it down in detail...
The meat itself is grilled on a steam table with onions on top... the seasoning inside the burger is magnificent. This is the first burger I’ve ever tasted where I honestly preferred the meat without any toppings or bun. The burger is presented in a similar fashion to Cloverfield as well as Bub’s, however I’m guessing that they are simply trying to imitate Hinkles after tasting their burger.
The meat is gold... 11/10.
I ordered my burger with bacon and the it was clearly fresh, smoked , and grilled to perfection.
The onions were not over powering and the lettuce and tomato might as well have been fresh from the farm.
My only quarrel with this burger is that the bun could have been thrown on the grill to crisp the edges a tad bit , but that’s just how I cook my burger.
I rated Bub’s an 8.1 burger , The former Scotty’s Brewhouse was a 7.1, and Butch’s is an 8.5... this burger is deserving of a minimum 9.7.
I really hope more students like myself venture out to go and try this burger ...

Read moreMy husband and I stopped in after a day of running errands for a nice greasy burger, and we were not disappointed. It is friendly, and the cashier-I think maybe he was the manager-had a funny, snarky sarcastic attitude which was contagious. It might be offensive to some, but we thought it was funny. There are signs on the wall that let you know the sort of mentality they try to have with each other and the customers. The interior is pretty small, giving it a unpretentious feel, but I can see how it would be super uncomfortable if it was busy. We went outside at a bench to eat, and that served us fine, but they do have a small bar to sit at with about three stools, and about six small tables. The wait time is reasonable for the fact they cook everything to order and it was sooo good. My one and only complaint is how everything is unseasoned-no salt on the fries or meat, but they offer pepper and salt so not really a big deal. We will most definitely return for more when the...
