Embarking on a spontaneous trip from Dayton to Cincinnati, I found myself irresistibly drawn to the delectable delights of Mac's Pizza. Accompanied by my beloved best friend and wife, we eagerly stepped into the restaurant, only to be greeted by a pristine and immaculate environment. Our table was impeccably clean, devoid of any sticky residue, and emitted an aura of utmost cleanliness. The tantalizing aroma that filled the air only added to our anticipation. Even the restroom facilities were spotless, a testament to the restaurant's commitment to hygiene.
My main objective in visiting Mac's Pizza was to explore their array of vegan options. Opting for a classic-style pizza topped with plant-based cheese, I embarked on a culinary journey that left me with mixed feelings. The pizza, while not reaching the heights of perfection, still managed to leave an impression. The sauce, though lacking the distinct taste of a homemade creation, was far from disappointing. In fact, it harmonized beautifully with the overall pizza experience. The vegetables, while evoking hints of food service origins, possessed a refreshing quality and provided a pleasing texture. As for the pizza crust, I suspected it may have been sourced from the freezer, yet it still held its own. Although the texture seemed slightly askew, I appreciated its satisfying chewiness and its ability to support the weight of the toppings and sauce. However, my primary concern lay with the plant-based cheese. Upon baking, it hardened and developed a crusty texture, which was less than ideal. This type of cheese supposed to be placed directly on top of sauce which causes cheese to fully melt. I hold no grudges against Mac's Pizza for this, as it is a common misstep made by restaurants unfamiliar with the intricacies of using plant-based cheese correctly. Due to its lack of fats, the vegan cheese should ideally be partially cooked with sauce prior to adding other ingredients, allowing it to melt seamlessly and envelop the other ingredients in a luscious, gooey embrace. This, in my opinion, is the epitome of a well-presented pizza pie.
Example: Pizza dough, Sauce and then plant base cheese and of course other toppings. However, most restaurants will cook the first three ingredients together from 1 to 3 min depending on oven temperature adding other toppings. Restaurants with oven temps above 500 degrees generally don’t experienced this issue and all ingredients are cooked together long as vegan cheese is on top of sauce. Same goes for sandwich’s using plant based cheese with additional step: sauce and cheese are mixed in a bowl together and placed on bread. Few restaurants also do this for pies. But never place vegan cheese on the very top.
I am fully aware that plant-based options are still relatively new to many restaurants, and thus, I refrained from voicing my concerns to the staff. Instead, I offered them a friendly suggestion for improvement. I must commend the exceptional friendliness and warmth of the Mac's Pizza staff, who went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was enjoyable.
Meanwhile, my wife decided to indulge in the meatball sub, which she found to be truly delightful. However, she did note that a touch more sauce would have enhanced the overall experience, as the sub leaned slightly towards the dry side. Nevertheless, the abundance of cheese and the flavorful meatballs made up for this minor drawback. It is important to mention that her order was not of the plant-based variety, as she is not a vegan herself.
I am looking forward to revisiting this restaurant and wishing they’ve used my suggestion. So please go visit Mac’s all of you vegans, great place to eat and...
Read moreI've been to MACS in Blue Ash quite a few times now. I've had a few issues, but no restaurant is perfect so I hesitated to leave a review. Now I think I've had enough experiences to leave a fair review.
Their pizza isn't bad. Not great, but better than say a Dominos or LaRosas. They have a few unique pizza options. The only really good items they offer is wings and calzones. The wings are large. The calzones are very good. Probably the best item they have.
Everything else I've tried is either just ok or not good.
Examples: The Italian sub - can be ordered hot or cold. I order one hot and the bun was toasted, but the meat was cold to the touch.
Boneless Wings - Like another review said they are like little chicken nuggets with breading similar to a Kids Cuisine meal.
Philly Cheesesteak - not bad, but oddly they put a strip of mayo across the top of the sandwich as opposed to spreading it on the bun. I've never seen that before. I inquired and was told that's how one cook does it. Weird.
Steak Hoagie - a thin JTM quality piece of meat. The menu CLEARLY says it comes with pickles. No pickles. I asked about it, and was told they don't have pickles. I asked if they meant they ran out, and no they litteraly don't have pickles. The waitress said it comes with a pickle spear. Not what is advertised on the menu. Apparently other locations will cut up the spear and put it on the sandwich. I guess this location is too lazy.
Patty melt - Menu says it comes with cheddar cheese. Melted cheese(hence the word 'melt')unless you ask for a different type of cheese. My burger had no cheese at all when served. I inquired and was told you have to ask for cheese. HAHA. ASK for cheese on a pattyMELT???
Like many restaurants these days, the food is pretty over priced. I will continue to come back, but I know what to stick with.
I will say they have friendly wait staff. Morgan is great and always hustling around checking...
Read moreI'll start with the positives: the food. Amazing waffle fries with homemade ranch to dip, cheese sticks with awesome cheese pull and the flying pig specialty pizza. So much cheese, wonderful sauce flavor, piping hot. The prices too are pretty decent for the portions. 3 apps, drinks and a pizza for $40
The negatives: hard to enjoy the food when your waitress was absolutely miserable. We walked in and she didn't even look at us. Not a hello, nothing. Just told us to sit wherever. Menus were thrown down. We were greeted with you know what you're drinking. Again, not a hello or anything. When I inquired about what kind of dipping sauces were available for the fries, she rolled her eyes and said "our salad dressings and wing sauce." Well ok obviously.. that's not what I asked. Didn't bother to list anything. I just picked ranch since she was so bothered by a simple question. The rest of the meal proceeded the same. She was mad that the pizza stand wasn't ready for her to put out our pizza. She's lucky I've worked in the food industry before because I still left a 20% tip because I feel too...
