First Watch — Restaurant in Blue Springs

When I arrived, there was a line at the checkout. The worker worked her way through the line without acknowledging me as I stood there. I was seated at a table near the main corridor to all the sections. The center of the table was darker brown than the rest of the table and sticky. I dont believe it was dirty, just the finish of the table becoming tacky. The cups came off the table with an audible sticky click, and you could see the rings and ridges in it. The Napkins barely came off without ripping. The server took our drink order and came back fairly quickly. We asked for a few minutes to go over the menu. After we placed our orders, a single pancake and a dish seasoned with Tanjin, which wasn't that warm, but tasted amazing! We waited forever. No one checked on us or offered us refills. After a half hour or so, our food arrived, and it was barely warm. Other than temperature, the food was pretty good. As I was eating and trying to chase my food down with coffee, I realized I never recieved water. When the server came by, I asked for water. It arrived promptly. I quickly drank two glasses. Then, upon refilling my glass a third time, I noticed something floating in it. I assumed it was a bit of backwash. My son and I both commented it was gross. Then, upon further inspection found the entire carafe had white bits floating in it and appeared a bit greasy. I placed both the glass and carafe on my empty plate. I let the server know there were bits floating in the water. I was given an apology and offered to go water or coffee. I kindly declined the offer. I paid for my meal and left no tip. I was in love with the atmosphere and aesthetics from the moment I stepped in the door. I made it known to the host and server it was my first time at a First Watch. They were very welcoming! They were also very helpful when prompted. I was toggling between the pumpkin pancake trifecta special or the lemon ricotta pancakes. I could not make up my mind. The server told me I could get one lemon instead of two pumpkin in the trifecta. I was sold! However, she failed to tell me it was a $2.50 up charge. 🤔 I would have been okay with it had she informed me, but I was a bit surprised when I received the check. 😲😠. - About the food, the menu description along with the attention to detail in the aesthetics made me think the food would have as much care and beauty. I’m sad to say, I was expecting much more from a description of “marinated berries”. From the description of the menu, I imagined more of a two berry blend with some sort of fancy mint or citrus marinade. Well, I received a few cut up strawberries marinated in plain sugar water 🙄. It wasn’t even the good saucy kind of sugar water! 😂. I asked about the marinade because I didn’t think they had anything on them at all! Perhaps they forgot to put it on? 🤷‍♀️..... nope, that was not the case. Over all, I think the atmosphere is wonderful, the service is great, but the food has something left to be desired in order to keep up with the rest of the brand. At $17 for one person, I will be saving this place for a very VERY special...

Why am I looking at Smuckers Brand Honey when I want honey for my Teas and Coffee?

If you pay me, I'll source local Honey approved by ks/mo health dept. For your locations in the kcmo metro area. I'll go locate minimal 3-5 local Hives to test,sample and approve with you. Then would love a % of the supply contract signed. Or free food. I'm retired at 39.

I gave 1 star on food cause I do feel like you've started to cut corners. I've been eating at your locations since 2004. I feel like as you have expanded as a business your quality of food as lowered.

I remember when you came to Colorado.. . You should go eat snooze and ask for the Real honeys.
