Poor, Poor quality food. If you are like me and think El Maguey is low level Mexican restaurant because they use such poor ingredients and boiled tasteless ground beef. Well consider this restaurant several notches below El Maguey. I ordered a $9.99 platter with 2 enchiladas, a taco and rice. The "enchiladas" were simply the very tasteless boiled ground beef wrapped by soggy tortillas. Yes soggy and close to falling apart. The taco was the same boiled beef with a good handful of cheese. The "Mexican rice" - oh my - was a very overcooked and totally tasteless white rice with a pinkish tinge. NO flavor there. I also ordered the queso cheese dip. There was the real test of their food quality. It was so thin that the dip didn't stick to the chips at all. It ran right off. I poured a little on the "enchiladas" and it ran off in a puddle. This "dip" was the consistency of milk and had a hint of cheese flavoring. Never have I experienced this type of dip before. It would have been better as a warm drink. The real surprise. I was charged $3.99 for the dip. Yep, true. I even took a picture of the bill I was so stunned. I asked if that was a mistake and was told no. So my meal total with tax was $15.00 for 1 person. I managed to eat maybe a 1/4 of it. I did enjoy their thin and crisp chips. I do understand overhead and labor costs and such. But really - about .75 - $1.00 in ingredients prepared in a very poor manner. They should be ashamed of themselves. I don't know about the other reviews. Maybe relatives or friends? Maybe real. I drive by this restaurant almost every day and seldom see many cars there and frequently no cars. Should have...
Read moreWe’ve tried the restaurant twice under the new ownership. This has been our Taco Tuesday & margaritas on the veranda summer ‘go to’ with friends for several years, but sadly we’ve concluded it’s not near as good as it was under the former owners and we won’t be visiting as we’ve done in the past. The food wasn’t bad, but nothing special. The tacos actually had more filling and my husband said the Burrito El Toro was better. The Fajita burrito and chips & salsa were just okay. Nothing remarkable. It wasn’t very busy so service was okay. Again nothing remarkable though. The prior owners and servers were much more interactive and friendly. Our biggest disappointment was the frozen margaritas. They used to be well worth the money. Now they are very underwhelming with very little tequila in them. Additionally they’ve increased the price on just about every item. Hopefully they read reviews and take some action for the better. Otherwise, they aren’t likely to remain in...
Read moreI keep forgetting to take photos! I had the burrito Supreme, with rice instead of beans, and my husband had the burrito Jalisco. The kiddo had the quesadilla. Everything was good, and the burritos were a good size, but not as big as my head. The quesadilla was perfectly cooked, though the child complained there was "too much cheese" (which is truthfully impossible, but she's seven). The reason they lost a star was the tortilla chips. We found a crumpled straw wrapper in the chips that didn't belong to any of us (we checked), and one of the chips had a dried drop of salsa on it. No proof, so I'm not going to do anything about it, but it's POSSIBLE our chips were left over from a previous party, and served to us. Again, this is just supposition, and we had no hesitation eating the rest of our (freshly cooked) food. Oh! Do be aware that their orange juice is something like Sunny-D, so if you're hoping for the real thing, ...
