I was excited to pick-up my dinner for my family as we were really craving some fried fish especially from Lutfi's. My husband encouraged me to place a carry out order for our family four yesterday evening, so we ordered the family dinner which included 2 pounds of fish and two sides. I wasn't 100% sure of the all the side dish options so the employee on the other end rattled off all of the options in about 2 seconds flat. I quickly chose red-beans and rice and potato salad. Upon entering Lutfi's establishment there were two employee's working and I was greeted with a smile. The staff member quickly checked me out and showed me the fish but did not open the containers with the sides. He even wrote down all the side dishes they offered since it wasn't listed on their menu he gave me for my reference for future orders which I thought was extremely courteous so I put a little cash in the tip jar. It was getting a little late in the evening so I was eager to get home and feed my family, but there was a lingering garlic smell that kind of left me puzzled. Once I entered my residence, I laid out all the food on our kitchen island and I could immediately smell garlic. I wasn't sure why this was, until I opened the container of red-beans and rice. You could see the minced garlic in the red-beans and rice but still I was determined to serve my family dinner and was open to a different style of cooking anyhow. I took one bite of the red-beans and rice and immediately spit it back out. My family did eat a few pieces of overcooked, dried out, rubbery fish, but did not even touch the potato salad. If I could have regurgitated the food I did it I would have. I needed to eat something sweet or sour immediately in order to get the taste out of my mouth. The food was absolutely repulsive. I immediately called Lutfi's where I spoke to the MOD. He apologized and requested I bring the food back. At first I was just going to suck-it-up and call it a loss. Then I was like no, they need to see what they are serving their customers and try their food so they know how offensive this really was to eat. My husband accompanied me back to Lutfi's and the MOD opened the containers and of coarse, there were a few pieces of fish missing as my family fully expected to eat a meal. However we poured the side dishes back into the containers as it just wasn't edible. The MOD then proceeds to tell me he will only be compensating me $16.00 of my $30 order due to the missing pieces of fish. I fully explained to him of coarse there will be pieces of fish missing, we expected to sit down as a family and eat out meal. What would you have us do, throw it up and return our vomit? We requested to speak with the owner, so the MOD called the owner. He could have cared less. He instructed the MOD go through with the return of $16. I asked the MOD for the owners name and initially he refused to give me his name, but eventually he did. I also asked what the owners business hours were so I could call and directly express my concerns with him and he said he didn't know that I would have to come to the store or call and find out for myself if he would be in or not. I again expressed how revolting this meal was and how they should embarrassed to serve their customers and expect them to eat it. I was asked to leave and it was my pleasure to do so. I will never...
Read moreEdit: Lutfi’s has been replaced by Momma Ann’z. I haven’t been there since the switch, so the review below is no longer applicable. Lutfi's is more than FRIED fish. My wife order blackened talapia and it was tremendous. Our family loves spicy food, and the blackening on the talapia didn't disappoint.
My son and I shared a 1lb of fried whiting. The whiting was tender and served extremely hot, fresh from the fryer, with just the right amount of breading. The sides we tried were just ok, not great, not bad. We shared red beans and rice, hush puppies, and green beans.
While there is plenting of seating, it appears the menu is set up cater to mostly takeout customers. The best deals are buying fish by the pound and having it prepared to order. The person that took our order appeared to be the owner of the franchise and was extremely helpful in explaining the menu. While we were waiting for our order, he brought out a sample of his fried catfish. While I preferred the whiting, the catfish was also excellent.
Chicken is also on the menu, but we didn't try it. We came for fish and we were...
Read moreFood and service getting worse and worse. The fish smells rotten these days (I work in a high end seafood restaurant, so I know that it shouldn't actually smell like rotting fish). PLUS this is Iiterally my first google review. That's how mad I am at how I was treated. I used to love this place when it was Lutfi's. They change prices and expect you to know what they are. I asked for hot sauce, they didnt give me any, then when I called just to let them know, the owner/manager said, "come back up here". Told him I live more than 10 minutes away, then he said, "so you are complaining I didnt drop any hot sauce in your bag?", and hung up on me.They just deleted my FB review as well. Mac and cheese is basically noodles and dirty dishwater. I have supported this local business for longer than I should have... EDIT: I forgot to say how much of a joke their "beans and rice" is. Literally Zattarains dirty rice, and undercooked and crunchy, which I tried three times, hoping they would have a decent...
