Fancy Sushi (Bluffton) — Restaurant in Bluffton

We first ate at Fancy Sushi 2 years ago and thought it was very good. We continued eating there at least 3 times a month for the next about 6 months and continued to enjoy the food and experience. Fancy Sushi has a "walk in" neighborhood feel to it and the service was good. This seemed to change for us over time however as we started to note that the service was going in the wrong direction. It seemed that they did not have enough servers. At times only one person with a sushi chef leaving his station to help out. This left only 1 sushi chef to service orders, instead of 2 - slowing service. The server or a sushi chef also had to leave their stations whenever someone came to pick up a carry out order and pay. This also slowed service. We decided on trying other sushi restaurants. A couple weeks ago we ate at Fancy Sushi, to see if it had improved its service. There were two servers and ours was very helpful, but we experienced other problems. The restaurant was smokey at ceiling level and a frying oder was present. The waitress agreed, but had to ask management why this was happening. We were told that the shopping mall the restaurant is in, disallowed heating and cooling systems to blow air out of the units into the open air center. This is difficult to understand. Arriving home later in the evening, my wife and I put the clothes we wore into our washing machine and put aside whatever had to be dry cleaned for follow up. We had to get the cooking or frying odor out of them. Additionally, I was served double the number of various sushi that I ordered. I did not see on the menu that each individual sushi ordered included 2 pieces so I stated I wanted 2 of each sushi. Perhaps I overlooked the above fact. After consultation with management our server said I would be charged for only 1 order of each sushi. That was appreciated. The food was good. I listed a 2 star review as in my opinion ownership should review need for more help, ventilation and perhaps consider adding a cashier eliminating the need for a server or chef to continue to have to leave their station to service pick up orders, in addition to customers...

My family visits Hilton head every summer. This summer I had fancy sushi for the first time, and I will be back every summer after this! When I tell you the sushi is to die for, and it’s not $16 a roll either! My boyfriend and I dined-in 2 days ago. We had a late lunch/early dinner, we probably got there around 3:30/4. We both got water & our waitress promptly took our order, after we asked for more time first 😅. She was polite, clean, and expedient. We felt very welcomed with a free appetizer, it was a delicious eddie roll. Again we did not ask for this, it was on the house! We shared 3 rolls, one being the fancy dragon, I think? They cut a piece of orange into the shape of a dragons head for the front of the roll! It was incredible! And it tasted even better! One roll had kiwi on top which was new to me, but it was tasty! The lobster salad was great too!

Tonight I placed a takeout order, as i couldn’t imagine leaving vacation without dining at Fancy Sushi again. I ordered online, where the full menu was located on their website. The website was extremely user friendly, I even asked for a side sauce with one of the rolls & of course it was already in the bag when I went to pick up! I was also given ANOTHER free appetizer roll again! They know what they are doing! There are no wrong answers on the menu. Everything is great, again! My wife and I tried this place out today for the first time. Nice little place, similar to any other Japanese restaurant. The complementary fried appetizer was delicious and unexpected. Food was good, they might want to figure out the ginger dressing they put way too much for it to be simply crushed ginger. My biggest problem was the service. Seems only two servers at the time, we got our drinks but sat and watched as the server took three other tables orders whom came in after us. We sat and watched silently, waiting to see if we should just go elsewhere. The server finally came and took our order just before we were going to leave.
