Bokafresh — Restaurant in Boca Raton

My review is on Bokafresh’s food as I ordered through Uber Eats.

Food was not good - inedible in my opinion.

I ordered Chicken Lo Mein and Beef Chow Fun.

Requested no onions and scallions in both dishes, which the restaurant did what I asked here.

I also requested “less sauce” in both dishes.

The Chicken Lo Mein was soaked/drenched in tons of sugary-soy sauce. Yuck! I couldn’t eat it.

The Beef Chow Fun looked like there was much less sauce as the flat noodles looked “light” in color. However, this dish tasted soooo bad! Couldn’t eat that either!

I’m not sure why there are so many high ratings of this place. One has to go to SF-Bay Area, NYC-Chinatown; NYC-Flushing-Queens, (maybe Fort Lauderdale for FL) to get real, authentic Chinese food. I guess the standards on getting truly tasty, authentic Chinese food in the Boca area is low.

Regardless, I knew I was ordering Chinese “takeout” type food but this was so bad. If only they read my requests (“less soy sauce”) and followed it correctly, I think I would have been OK with the Chicken Lo Mein.

(Yes - they did follow my instructions on no onions and scallions. Appreciate that.)

I know they followed instructions on the Beef Chow Fun in terms of “less sauce” but OMG - it tasted so bad; they pretty much didn't put any sauce and probably used whatever sauce was left over on the cooking pan for this dish. It tasted like burnt "cooking pan". How can you mess up on Beef Chow Fun sauce?

This is the first time this has happened to me - where I have to toss out Chinese “takeout” food and hardly eat it.

Note - I also ordered General Tso’s Chicken before and the sauce was pretty good. But it literally had mostly fried batter and the tiniest amount of chicken in there. So you’re really just eating fried dough...

Update 2 years since my initial review: We ordered tonight March 10th ‘24. The food portions haven’t changed, that’s a good thing. We ordered: chicken lo mein, general tsao’s chicken, chicken pad Thai, cashew chicken, beef with broccoli, kung pao chicken, spring rolls and egg rolls. VERDICT: the food was as expected based on our first impressions from 2 years ago but also as expected for Chinese take away. The dishes were freshly prepared and were flavourful in each of their own ways. We weren’t blown away but definitely enjoyed our family meal together and the variety of dishes shared. I will say that the pad Thai flavour profile was a little too tangy for all of us but still tasted fresh. The only negative for us were the spring rolls as they didn’t excite anyone at all (not much flavour, not what we expected out of a spring roll). See additional photos.

We ordered beef and broccoli, general tsao’s chicken, chicken fried rice, chicken pad Thai, egg rolls, chop suey with vegetables , All were very delicious. The chicken in any of the dishes was very tender. Great portions and everything seemed very fresh.

The egg rolls are also homemade and we really enjoyed them.

We also ordered shrimp with vegetables but found the shrimp a little too salty. Wasn’t our favourite dish.

Would definitely order again.

Parking to pick up the food may be an issue if you don’t find a spot on one of the side roads as you can’t stop / park on Federal. Again very delicious and...

Bokafresh is one of my favorite Chinese/Japanese restaurants in all of South Florida.

My wife and parents and I really love it a lot. Best Asian takeout food in all of Boca Raton, as well.

I don't have any pictures to share from this meal, if only because it's all gone in a hurry. So delicious.

As a vegan, I love the various vegetarian/vegan options, and many of their meals can be made vegan by taking out egg, etc. and you can add tofu to most any veggie dish.

I really love the Vegetable Chow Fun and I love it with their black bean sauce, Vegetable Lo Mein, as well as their fried rice with veggies, no egg, of course.

Sushi is great, as well, veggie or non-veggie for my wife and mother. Really fresh and well made. Can't go wrong with anything you order at Bokafresh, and the owners are really nice people, as well. It's not an eat in place, but for takeout, it's A+++!
