I believe I was not fortunate on my visit to Maya on Nov 10th. Ambiance-wise the TVs were off, there was no music playing, nothing... to bad for a thematic restaurant for a start. We were seated, they gave us water, and then 10 minutes passed but no one came to our table. There were only 2 tables open! My wife and I were ready to leave, when I decided to call for the server, who by the way, spoke very little English (I found out later that he was Hispanic and since I speak Spanish, we were able to communicate). Then the server called for one of the managers it seems (he spoke English), who had seen us seated there for 10+ minutes (I wonder why he did not come before I had to call for someone).
My wife ordered their lamb chops, I asked his recommendation, which was a soup and the cauliflower. We had a 3-year-old with us, but they had no kids' menu whatsoever. I asked the manager-server to bring her some grilled chicken. My food came in fast, in less than 10 minutes, but it took them another 35 minutes to bring in my wife's plate. She ended up eating half of my food, since we were both quite hungry. When my daughter's plate arrived, there was enough chicken for 2 grown adults! And the pieces were so big that on my first cut I realized they were rare, we had to send them back in to cook some more.
In the end, when I asked for the check, they charged me $20 for the chicken (I had ordered a kid's plate, come on...). Not only that, my wife's lamb chops on the menu were $27, on the check they came for $35. I went and grabbed the menu on the counter, and verified that they were indeed $27. So when I called the manager-server gentleman, he said that I had gotten the wrong menu (??) and instead of honoring the $27 price he showed me a different menu and made me pay $35.
I love Indian cuisine, and I live super close, but I'm not going back there,...
Read moreBeen a long time supporter of this place due to the fact the food is good and authentic which is rare to find. Have noticed a steady decline over the years in service and quality. Last night my family and I ate there and the restaurant was empty, we had it to ourselves, we kept noticing gnats flying all over the place which should have been the first red flag, we must have killed at least a dozen while there. It made the meal less enjoyable, it wasn’t until we finished the meal and had to wash up that the horrors of this place were unveiled… as soon as you entered the men’s room you’re hit with an ungodly stench, the foulest smell I’ve had the displeasure of ever being around and that’s coming from a diehard fisherman who’s been around days old rotting bait baking in the sun… my 7 year old had to cover his nose with his shirt and I was gagging the entire time in there as I helped him wash his hands with just water since there was no soap available at all. It also makes you wonder if the employees are properly sanitized while handling your food. We ran out of there as fast as we could and what leftovers we had went straight into the trashcan outside. Once home I had to throw up what ever contents of the food I had left since I had become evidently ill from the smell alone. My family has sworn off Indian food all together now unless it’s homemade. We hate to stereotype but poor hygiene is a common theme with Indian restaurants and unfortunately tonight, Maya delivered on...
