Came in after making a reservation the day prior, we came inside five minutes prior to our reservation and weren’t welcomed in. There was no one there to greet us and when someone showed up ten minutes later, she looked at us and didn’t say anything until we spoke to her asking where we could sit because we were dining in with a reservation. She said “you can sit here” and gestured to an empty table. Five minutes later we were asked to move because that table was reserved for another party. That was okay, no problem. Just a mishap or mistake and totally fine. We weren’t told what new table was ours until we asked the same girl that sat us down originally and she shrugged us off until we asked again. Finally we sat down and the table was sticky and smelled like bleach and cleaning products. I think the owner came around eventually and took our order. The food was just okay, just seemed like it was made from a jar or a box, and the service was absolutely terrible. One of the cooks in the back was the most helpful and even he was extremely busy which was understandable. There were two parties in the restaurant. A table of 17 people and then us two. They just prioritized the other table the entire time. We weren’t checked on at all and I had to finally flag the “server” down to give us the bill so we could get out of there as fast as we could. We were patient, considerate, and understanding. But the service was still absolutely horrendous. The food was mid, the bread was burnt with no hint of garlic in it. I wish I liked this place, I really do. I waited weeks to try it. It just never delivered in any...
Read moreI think it's great to see all the real reviews for this place and how it really is the best Italian restaurant in Boca, which it is!
Then I find really funny how there is that one review from the former owner Andy, who writes as another person and copy/paste that review on all the sites. Yelp, trip advisor, yahoo, this one, etc. saying how horrible this place is. Why is he so angry at the "new" owners? Which by the way are not so new anymore, as they've owned this place for almost 2 years now. Personally I think he's just bitter because Talia's used to be pretty good, but now it's GREAT! The food is way better, the place is actually clean now and the staff is friendly.
That old show of a mean Italian behind the counter does not work in the real world where people pay good money for good food and proper service. Maybe it worked on Seinfeld with the soup natzi but it sure doesn't work in real life. I guess that is why he lost the business and the "New" (not so new anymore) owners are doing great. The place is always packed. Proof is in the pudding. I guess if I was a professionally trained chef, created a concept and my own menu, and then people with hardly any experience in the restaurant business make it better than me, I would be pretty pissed off too. Can't really blame him. I would feel like a looser too.
Enough about that. The "New" Talia's, Keep up the great work and the amazing food. See you tomorrow for lunch as I do...
Read moreMy Mom and I took the cooking glass with Chef Andy. I have taught cooking classes myself but absolutely love the style of this class. Its very casual, you are cooking in his kitchen, everyone shares. You instantly become friends with everyone in the class over broken bread and bottles of wine. He teaches you the basic elements of cooking so that you actually understand WHY you do something, rather than just HOW you do it... The atmosphere is not at all what you would expect with a pour your own beer keg, but it's extremely inviting in a "come in, let me share my secrets with you" kind of way... We have already signed up for a second class and look forward to spending another Sunday afternoon with Chef Andy.
If you are looking for a white table cloth, snub nose arrogant chef who will teach you food you could never afford all of the ingredients to yourself, don't go. But if you truly love cooking and the simple joys of a family preparing a meal together, Chef Andy is the only one I've met that can really teach you that b/c you can tell it's the reason he...
