BUYER BEWARE : Owner Mystic Lobster tried to rip me off on a cash payment... Big sign near the cash register says there is a SURCHARGE (with no disclosure of how much - but it’s 4% extra, according to owner) for “NON-CASH Payments”. So after some small talk with owner about lobster, and asking me if this was my first time in his shop (it was) I order a roll and an a beer. Gave him a $100 Bill. Owner asks if I have anything smaller - I don’t. He then gives me my change, while ripping me off for $4 (lack of change?) without disclosing this. I catch it, look him in the eye, and ask why did he shortchanged me ? Does not say a word. I tell him I am uncomfortable about this, especially as a first time customer. He is STILL silent. I ask for the correct change, he does nothing, says nothing. So I tell him to cancel my order, grab my $100 Bill and walk out. Wow. What a way to treat a new customer. #EpicFail
ps : On a side note, this would be the first time in my life I have EVER visited a Lobster 🦞 House and smelled ZERO LOBSTER cooking. This small place was completely devoid of any food smells, and the kitchen is completely hidden from view. Hmm.. You should assume they are either using canned (NOT FRESH) lobster or perhaps even fake lobster meat, given the owners...
Read moreMy wife and I couldn’t wait for this store in Boca Raton to reopen. The prior owners were great and always available. We used to get the Connecticut lobster roll. It was always completely filled with large chunks of lobster. When we went to this same store once reopened we order the same. However, it was half filled up and the same price. If you look at their website the lobster rolls are completely filled up with succulent lobster. I would be very hesitant in buying lobster rolls from this store. Today(October 2024) Saturday we tried to order lobster one more time from the Boca Raton store. My wife ordered on their website which specified that they were open. We ordered the same type of lobster rolls we did about a month ago, we specified that we would pick them up at 6:00pm. It takes 30 minutes to get there. When we arrived the store was closed. My wife called the Ft. Lauderdale store which also own the Boca store. The manager told us that it should be open and did not know what happened. We paid by credit card and wanted to make sure that it wouldn’t go through. He said that he would call us tomorrow. What poor service and incompetence. You would be crazy if you ordered from them. Will follow up...
Read moreThe lobster rolls were excellent. The service was not. The lobster bisque was not great and the owner seemed incredibly irritated that we were unhappy with it, even going so far as to visit our table a second time mention how no one in three years has ever complained about the soup.
Be aware that this is only a storefront with no indoor seating. There are two tiny tables on the sidewalk (which we were not permitted to move temporarily to sit in shade - even though we were two adults with two toddlers and a baby).
My recommendation - call in advance to place your order, get some lobster rolls to go, and skip the lobster bisque. Oh, and be aware it is very pricey (yes, I know lobster is notoriously expensive). We paid over $80 for three lobster rolls and a small order of mac and cheese.
Edited to add after owner response: We we’re explicitly told not to move the tables for safety reasons. There are two small tables with 6 total chairs outside. I don’t see how 8-10 people could possibly fit. Given that you are priced below other area establishments, it makes sense that the lobster is likely canned, as other reviewers...
