This was my first time trying an establishment in Kerrville, and as a San Antonian, I can say that I was not displeased, though I also was not blown away.
Mary’s Tacos drew me in with its high ratings and praise from locals online, and upon entering the establishment, I was greeted by the friendly cashier at the front. I immediately noted the staff working hard in the back, and was impressed by the In-n-Out level of business that was going on in the kitchen.
I ordered the Bubba taco, which was the carne guisada, potato and cheese taco. I typically love guisada as a breakfast option, since the meat is tender, moist and flavorful and pairs well with carbs and more salsa. The taco felt soft, and I can tell it was made not long ago. However, the overall temperature of the taco was lukewarm at best, not a hot deal like the best tacos are. Even the ingredients weren’t hot off the grill, but it was warm enough to consume. The guisada itself was tender, and the flavor resonated in the mouth when eaten. The cheese, though not as melted as I would like, didn’t distract too much, and the flavors mended fine. The potatoes were solid, adding a nice medium for the sauces and flavor to be absorbed in, and they were pleasant for this reason.
The salsas were a green and red style sauce. The green appeared to have almost a finely minced texture, not what I am used to for a green salsa, and unfortunately the minced ingredients kept separating from the liquid it sat it, making it a very messy salves to eat. The heat level was good, but the flavor and texture of the salsa was a turn-off for me. The red salsa was comforting, with the texture being smooth across with little separation. The mild heat still had flavor, and I imagined this salad would also be good with some tortilla chips. It went well with my taco, and I used it all.
Overall, I believe that this may very well be the best Texas-style taco in Kerrville, and it was comforting to see a hard-working establishment having this much success. Though it wasn’t the best taco I’ve ever had, it was an earnest one, and it had enough body and flavor to keep me going bite after bite. If you’re in town and want a good taco, don’t be...
Read moreWe love Mary's - enough that my family goes there basically every week and up until recently have had no complaints.
Now, they are getting petty over the menu offerings THEY advertise ,and the portions are getting steadily smaller while the price goes up.
I am referring to the "quesadilla" on their menu, which, for the record I have ordered this way for years and up until about a month ago never had any issues. It's listed as Quesadilla with cheese and up to 4 ingredients - so we order, specify the ingredients, and now have just been getting cheese and a tortilla - NO INGREDIENTS ADDED AT ALL. We ask them to please fix it and they are rude, saying we instead have to build a custom, more expensive taco, and then click the "make it a quesadilla" button - which costs $1.75 extra. This item is no bigger than a standard taco - yet if I build it how they want me to, it will cost over $6 each vs the normal $3. Years of ordering them at the 3 price point, with my selected ingredients, never an issue.
Again, I have ordered these for YEARS and it's never been an issue. We give Mary's on average $160-200 a month.... And while we love the food. This petty behavior over an item that THEY list on their menu makes us hesitant go back.
Mary's, honor the prices and items listed on your website /app or DON'T OFFER THEM. It is not hard to remove an item or change a price on your app, and I know you can because the prices of everything else keep going up!!!
Paying for a quesadilla with 4 ingredients, getting no ingredients, and being told you won't do anything... Sorry, but that's theft. We will take our money elsewhere until this...
Read moreWe went to Mary’s tacos today to take home food for our family and we felt very unwelcome and very offended by one of the ladies in charge. As we came in we had our service pet that had markings on her that showed she was meant to be here for us when we needed it the most. And as we were in line the big lady in charge started talking in Spanish as if we didn’t understand and kept making remarks about us that started offending us. When we got to the register she kept telling the cashier in Spanish, who didn’t say anything and treated us very nicely and greatly, that we had to wait outside and couldn’t come in until we left and came in without our service animal. Im not sure if she always has a bad attitude or if she just woke up on the wrong side of bed but i am a regular customer who genuinely enjoys Mary’s tacos. And for us to feel so offended made my wife feel as if she never wanted to come again because of how unwelcoming she made us feel. I demand that i see disciplinary action towards this individual as every time we’ve come in as a family she has always had an attitude towards me and my family. She aswell rationed our food by making our food so much less than I’ve always come before and granted they were not busy as they have been at other times, and not only did she ration our food she mess up our order as i watched her from the front door baby our order from grill to bagging. All the other staff has definitely made us feel great and taken care of. I wish that next time i cone in with our service pet that we are treated as regular customers and we...
