In the vibrant tapestry of dining experiences, the perfect balance of delicious food and attentive service is what creates lasting memories. Unfortunately, our recent visit to a new neighborhood restaurant highlighted the chasm that can exist between culinary excellence and service failure, leaving us disappointed and unlikely to return.
From the outset, anticipation hung in the air as we stepped into the inviting atmosphere of the restaurant. Eager to try this new spot, we were greeted by a host whose lack of warmth was disheartening. After a brief wait, we were shown to our table, where we hoped for a delightful dining experience. Little did we know, the real challenge lay ahead.
After being seated, we found ourselves waiting for our server, Ava, to acknowledge our presence. A good fifteen minutes slipped by before we were even greeted. As we observed the bustling environment, we noticed that other tables—those that arrived after us—were promptly served water, while we were left parched. When we finally requested water, Ava brought it to us but managed to spill some across the table, soaking the straws in the process. Rather than apologizing or cleaning up the mess, she tossed the napkins onto the table, leaving us to wonder if this was a self-serve establishment.
Our confusion only grew when we questioned why we hadn’t received water earlier, and Ava casually responded that there were no glasses available. This raised an eyebrow, considering other tables were already being served. It felt like we were in a limbo of service inefficiency, caught between a bustling restaurant and an inattentive server.
As the meal progressed, our challenges with Ava continued. My husband accidentally dropped his silverware while Ava was standing right there. Rather than offering to replace it, she simply stood by, leaving us to scramble for an extra setting at the table. It’s the small gestures of hospitality that matter, and this was a missed opportunity.
After enjoying our lattes and coffees, we found ourselves with empty cups that Ava neglected to remove. The clutter piled up, and we had to awkwardly push the cups aside to make space. When she finally checked in with us, I took the opportunity to voice our concerns about the lack of attention and service. Although Ava did offer an apology, her explanation of having to juggle multiple tables felt more like an excuse than a solution. The struggles of a server, while valid, should never come at the expense of the dining experience of guests.
Despite the remarkable flavors and the potential of this new establishment, our experience was overshadowed by a cascade of service missteps. A wonderful meal can uplift spirits, but without the support of attentive service, it can leave a sour taste that lingers long after the last bite.
In conclusion, while we commend the kitchen for their culinary prowess, the overall experience left much to be desired. It’s disheartening when a restaurant with such promise falls short in delivering the kind of service that complements its delicious food. Until the service can match the quality of the offerings, this new spot will unfortunately not...
Read moreI was really excited to try Honey Berry in Bolingbrook after seeing the 4.7-star rating — the menu looked amazing, and it seemed like a promising brunch spot. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t come close to matching the hype.
I made a reservation online for the Bolingbrook location and was told I was 30th in line with about a 25-minute wait putting us at 12:25 pm. It oddly displayed the location in West Allis on the bottom of tacking my place in line, which made things confusing — I wasn’t sure if it was a glitch or if that was their main hub. While waiting, our wait time kept changing, suddenly jumping to an estimated 12:45 seating to 1:15. Then, just as randomly, it told us we were next. We rushed over — only to find there was no line at all and tons of open tables.
Our waitress was sweet and friendly and took our order promptly, but the food took 45 minutes to arrive. When it finally did, my order was wrong. I had ordered the California omelette, but they brought me something entirely different, he said the “fig and bacon”. When I pointed it out, the server just said, “Oh yeah, the California,” without even checking. On top of that, the omelette was missing key ingredients like the avocado. They also never brought syrup for my husband’s French toast and pancakes.
As if that weren’t enough, an employee accidentally dropped a glass cup right by our table. It shattered next to my leg — and I was wearing shorts — which felt really unsafe.
That said, I did really like the decor — it felt fresh, trendy, and clean. The atmosphere was bright and modern, and it gave the impression that we were in for a good experience. Unfortunately, the service didn’t live up to that first impression. Overall, the experience was chaotic, slow,...
Read moreWe decided to try this place for brunch on a weekend after seeing the good reviews online. But we won’t be going back.
Pros: Check in was easy and they sent a text when our table was ready The waiter came to the table right away and brought our drinks right away. It was busy but the food came out timely The fries are good
Cons: The menu said there was FRESH juice so I ordered an orange juice for $6. It was nasty bitter juice from concentrate. Definitely NOT fresh. $6 is crazy for that low quality juice! The kids ordered chocolate milk. It was made with powder and tasted like plain skim milk. And it was almost room temperature! They wouldn’t even drink it and I don’t blame them. It was gross. We ordered soda because we didn’t like the juice or milk, but they didn’t have a majority of the sodas listed on the menu. All they had was Coke, Diet Coke and lemonade. We ordered Coke and it was watered down. Ugh. The French toast was extremely dry. It needed to soak in the batter much longer. The bread they used was really good but without batter it’s not good French toast. The rest of the food was mediocre. We had a burger and a monte cristo sandwich with bacon and hash browns. The waiter walked past us 5 times after we got our food and didn’t stop long enough for me to be able to order more drinks. I had to flag him down. This might be petty but the waiter’s fingernails were really long and dirty and unkempt. Just seeing that around food grosses me out.
Overall I feel like this place serves very mediocre or sub-par food and it’s not cheap! There are many other restaurants that are so much better. I wanted to try this place because it’s new but we definitely won’t be...
