I love Indian food and make a point of trying it whenever we travel. We first tried Mint while visiting our son at Appalachian State and it has become a favorite stop whenever we are in town.
One of the things that makes the food here stand out is the use of a tandoor oven. You’ll taste the difference in their naan bread — and I highly suggest that if you like garlic at all that you get an order of the garlic naan bread to accompany whatever else you may order. If you don’t like garlic, just order the regular naan.
If you are new to Indian food, a good place to start is with an order of chicken tikka masala which is served with a bowl of fragrant basmati rice. It is one of our favorites and one we go back to often. You will be asked how spicy you’d like your order on a scale of one to five stars. I love mine at a three which has enough heat to help you breathe freely but not so much that your ears turn red. If you are intimidated, start with a one star order. We have tried other entrees here and all have been delicious, so you can’t go wrong.
We like to be a little adventurous with our appetizers and a favorite for us is the aloo tiki chat - a delicious combination of spicy, salty and sweet. I’m pretty sure that the sweet sauce on top of this has tamarind — a flavor that takes me back to the Indian restaurants we enjoyed in Africa.
If you or a family member is a fan of food that’s less bold, I recommend the tandoori chicken. It’s like grilled chicken, but cooked in the tandoor. The beauty of chicken dishes in Indian cuisine is that it is marinated before cooking and is...
Read moreThese people definitely don't know how to make Indian food! Went by rating on google and 5 star recent reviews and ordered a lot of food for takeout. Worst food ever! We ordered Chicken Chilli, chicken 65, Tandoori mixed Platter, and Chicken Tandoori (Spice level: HOT). The order came with sides of White Rice, weird tasting onion salsa and OFF/SPOILT tasting gravy of which we couldn't identify the ingredients. To start with, Chicken Chilli, was chicken tossed in sweet/tangy red sauce and Onions. Couldn't eat a second bite. Chicken 65 was yellow for first time in my life. It was loaded with turmeric and salt. Worse than chicken Chilli. Tandoori Platter came with 2 pcs of 4 appetizers, all tasted same bland except appearance. And more than those 8 pcs, there were pcs of cauliflower and broccoli? Are you serious? Then comes the star menu, Tandoori Chicken. It was WHITE chicken pcs peeking through a pile of Cauliflower and broccoli! Worst than I have ever had anywhere in the world. They asked Spice level (mild, medium, medium Hot, hot, Indian Hot) while ordering, we selected HOT. That's 4/5 as per THEIR Spice level. Let alone Hot, it didn't even have enough salt to start with. Absolutely no spice, no traces of marinade, taste and smell of Cauliflower and broccoli seeping through the chicken. It was plain cooked white chicken, BROILED in oven. They don't have Tandoor (Clay Oven) I guess! Please don't waste your money and time over so called INDIAN food. They certainly DO NOT know how to make Indian cuisine. PLEASE AVOID THIS...
Read moreQuaint little Indian restaurant in Boone, NC. It was a surprise find for us when we went there Presidents’ Day weekend. They were pretty busy. We had a wait of about 25 mins but not bad. Service was pretty good our server was amar and he did a decent job on the orders. Ambience was as pretty low key and calm! Perfect for dinner after a long day Food was pretty good but catered for the American stomach. We loved the naans they were soft and non chewy. The Masala papad was good too. The rest of the curries were just ok… not too outstanding in taste. We ordered the fish and shrimp briyani which was more of an instant briyani very mild in flavoring… not what I expected so that was a let down. But I guess it’s because they cater for the non Indian stomach! But it satisfied our warm Indian food craving tonight. Desserts were ok too. Service was prompt and water refills were quick! Our biggest disappointment was the guy who was taking the reservations. He seated the 2 Americans who came after us in a four seater booth … when asked why he said oh it does not hurt to wait for 2 secs you’ll can wait I see another booth getting empty … well i know I can wait but that’s not the point … and that not the way you need to address me! Bad service right on the start I almost wanted to walk out but my family had waited for 30 mins now we continued our wait. His arrogance could use some tuning. And I do understand your main customer base is Americans but a customer is a customer irrespective of the nationality! I hope they...
