Good beer selection, food is very average. Lots of tv's but very noisy. Prices on drinks are above the norm, especially when you are within walking distance from Johnnie's. Definitely a more social atmosphere though. When I went with my girlfriend, the bartender was very courteous and attentive. She knew the menu, and was very friendly and prompt. She was also attentive enough, somehow, to know that my girlfriend and I did not want to be at a floor table and made room for us to come sit up at the bar. If it werent for this level of service, I probably would have given this place two stars for being a run of the mill bar, but the service we received warranted the extra star.
UPDATED REVIEW: Apparently this establishment has taken to the current trend of automatically adding 20% gratuity (at least for our party of 4) and credit card use surcharge to the bill. So heres the deal. We got a bill for something like 96.78 dollars WITH the 20% gratuity and projected 2.68 "credit card fee" factored in. Granted, I did have a good server so I wouldn't have objected to the automatic 20% "gratuity" for a party of 4 but I do disagree on the principle. But even discounting the fact that I paid $100 Cash with my party and with the credit card fee no longer a factor my bill should have been 94.10.
I received 4 singles instead of 6.90. Shorted 2.90 on a single party, possibly more if the gratuity wasn't forced.
You may think I'm being a nitpicker or whatever but I'm a corporate process analyst. My day to day job is analyzing the minutiae of what makes a business work from the ground level. Usually my focus is on identifying root causes of loss, but I'm not a one trick pony. I miraculously have the ability to identify root causes of gain as well. This business, like many others, is adopting trends across multiple industries to pass the cost onto the consumer to keep themselves solvent. Mandatory gratuity is part of your contract of doing business. If they add this into your receipt, you have NO obligation to tip.
Credit card processing charge-simple-pay cash. But I did that and they fleeced me.
As I said, service was good and all, but I cannot morally support a business that adopts these policies. And you're supposed to be a sports bar, yet you "close" at 11 on the weekends? Are...
Read moreWATCH OUT ... if you use a credit card they're going to rip you off (charge you) 3.25% and not tell you about it. Happy Birthday ... surprise!
The wings are ok. The hot sauce have a lot of choices. But when they have the Monday $.70 special they are going to charge you extra for the Blue cheese dressing and the celery and the napkins if they could get away with it.
Service was ok; no superstars here. They eventually come around.
I'm going to copy the other guy's review comments about the SURPRISE your going to get if you use credit cards here. "...My biggest issue is the 3.5% credit card transaction fee. I know that it costs the business more to process credit card transactions, but this should be priced into the food cost and should not be a penalty to the customer. I don't usually return to places that feel that they need to charge for every little thing. It makes for a bad experience."
Ditto buddy .... I will never go back to Sharky's West. Not for dinner, not for holidays, not for MNF, not for directions. You can keep your ok wings and Blue cheese. I'm saving 3.25% by going to a competitor of yours. They'll appreciate my business and not insult me by 'nickle and dimeing" me. And if they do the same I move on to the next.
What really pisses me off is Sharky's West doesn't have the professionalism to tell you upfront that they are going to rip you off. Maybe I would have paid cash to save the 3.25% penalty but they didn't give me that option. I have now spent to much time on these jokers. Dine at your own risk ...
After owner comment I did not notice that you displayed it, I'll never know. I guess I have been there on and off for so long I didn't think to look for that. Gee sorry business is so bad. Your place was packed. High quality problem you got there! You do have control over the specials you offer. You could charge $.80 a wing and don't play games with charging for dressing, celery, whatever. So, to say you don't have control over pricing that's a little weak. Maybe you don't want to spend the money on new menus. Quite frankly IDGAS. Your problem. Like I said I'm onto the next. NJ is not lacking for beer and...
Read moreSo my friend recommended this restaurant, since I'm a huge fan of buffalo wings and I will drive the distance to get the best buffalo wings I can get..My first time going there, parking is decent, but location what I seen inside it's very small and the bar... After sitting down looking over the menu they give you plenty of choices sauces that you can use for your buffalo wings, just wish that they would categorize it from extreme heat to sweet I can only imagine every customer explaining which sauce is the hottest and which isn't which would make it much easier for the customer and the waiter.... Was disappointed that they don't offer bottled water and I despise drinking tap water so in a way you're forced to have to either purchase alcohol or other beverages (be aware) so as I'm ordering the wings my friend decides to get pizza instead buffalo wings came within 20 minutes buffalo wings were very satisfying not overcooked crispy as I expected, so I was very satisfied with the buffalo wings, but the pizza I have tried myself because I'm a curious kind of person I always like to try different foods, but this pizza was definitely NOT what I'm used to... It basically tasted like your typical frozen pizza that you would buy at your supermarket ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE blah no flavor whatsoever. When it comes to service they need to be more attended to customers request and needs that's what you're paid for not to chit chat with your employees, if someone acknowledges the waiter you come to the customer you don't tell them to wait if you can multitask, then this job position is not for you, "if you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen!" So from my past experience going there I give this an average rating which they definitely NEED to improve and take away the waiter's cell phones that way they're not distracted and actually focusing...
