I visited Boothbay Harbor on this day. I walked around and went into the shops and read restaurant menus not seeing what I was in the mood for. I happened upon Marcels Submarine Shop. I ordered the"Godfather" sub. The first bite I knew I made the right choice. The sub was delivered in a brown paper wrap with a rope tied neatly around it. The cold cuts were fresh and plentiful. There is only one size sub which I could only eat half and brought the rest home for dinner. The roll itself was delicious but mostly fresh. I spoke with the owner, Marcel and he explained that he makes the rolls fresh every morning....200 to be exact. He also told me and showed me the whiskey bar he has at the back of the restaurant. He explained that he started out with a small collection of whiskey and in time it grew to the many different types he has on display. I was also impressed at the different hot sauces he has. They are on a separate "wall" by the sandwich counter. He serves local brews, soda and wine.. I understand that most people when they visit Boothbay Harbor are interested in seafood and there are plenty of restaurants to satisfy that want but if you are looking for a great sub sandwich, I highly recommend you try Marcels. Staff is friendly, the place is clean and prices are reasonable. Will definitely return with friends. It is a 2.5 hour ride for me but it is well worth it.. Thank you Marcel for letting me take pictures to put with this review.

On Townsend Avenue in Boothbay Harbor, Marcel’s Submarine Shop stands out with the aroma of bread baking fresh each day. The small shop has quickly become a favorite stop for hearty sandwiches that feel homemade yet inventive. Subs here are layered with care—traditional Italian combinations, rich cured meats, and cheeses, along with baguette sandwiches that bring a touch of French flair. The menu also rotates with soups and salads, giving regulars something new to look forward to alongside their favorites. Marcel’s has carved its niche in a town best known for seafood by showing that a great sandwich can be just as much a coastal Maine tradition. It’s quick, satisfying, and full of flavor—perfect fuel before or after exploring the harbor. #MarcelsSubmarineShop #BoothbayHarbor #LocalEats #CoastalMaine #SandwichSpot

This place SERIOUSLY undersells themselves— The ingredients were fresh and plentiful, our sandwich was well-composed, filling and delicious. (There is a very large selection of hot sauces if you’re into that.) The only affordable fare in town by a long shot— we were charged under $10 for a foot long sub! And don’t get me started on their whiskey selection. The sign says “beer and wine,” but this shop has an EXQUISITE whiskey bar in the back, with an extensive list of flight options. In the back by the bar, the ambiance is like the “captain’s cabin” in an old ship—lots of dark wood and leather chairs with a lovely view of the bay.

This was one of the only few places open Christmas Eve and while I could tell they felt worn out from wanting to leave early they nevertheless took us in out of the cold and gave us the best sandwiches I have ever tasted.

Can't remember the name of it but my boyfriend ordered the steak sandwich.

I myself ordered a rather fantastic turkey sandwich with pepper jam bacon and apple slices.

I'm really thankful for them allowing us a wonderful Christmas dinner to take home with us back to the bed and breakfast. I am really thankful for the time they spent on us.

They were good people and I hope they managed to get home in time for the loved ones...
