If you can only visit one place in BoothBay Harbor, make it PIER 1 PIZZA and PUB!

We were visiting from Shelton, Washington and just happened to drop in to the pub for a beer. Within minutes, We felt like regulars. Cory and Harry offered us popcorn and local insight, even traded a few jabs about Super Bowl XLIX, (Patriots beat Seattle on a last second interception.) The more we had to drink, the better friends we became. As more people began to arrive we were introduced as if we were old friends. Catherine and Winter kept our drinks flowing and the conversation lively.

Before long, we got hungry for clam chowder, and asked where we might find a good restaurant. In minutes Cory produced two bowls of the best chowder we've ever eaten. I think it was made specially for us by the kitchen staff. The perfect blend of all ingredients and clams. After that, we were treated to slices of their signature "Big 20 Inch" thin crust pizza. WOW! It made other pizzas seem bland, especially when somebody put honey, (yes HONEY,) on top of the delicilus peperoni. What an incredible taste experience.

As we got into the shank of the evening, I remember telling jokes, singing, trading clothing, (?), listening to stories about community pride and comradeship, and wishing that we could spend a lot more time with these extrodinary people.

When you visit BoothBay Harbor, please stop by Pier 1 and tell them Ed and Nancy sent you. Tell them your first drink is on me, and that I said to put...

We did not go for food, so I can't speak to that. We went on a Thursday night for karaoke. The bar staff is EXCELLENT. Both bartenders were absolutely swamped with loud, drunken and demanding customers. Both kept their cool and remained polite and efficient - not an easy task in any bar, but especially challenging in a tourist area.

The karaoke was fine. Unfortunately, this is one of those places where the KJs sing periodically. I absolutely get the need for that at the start of the evening, to kick things off. I get it when things are slow and they are trying to keep the energy up. But - when there is a long line of people waiting to sing, I feel like the host should step back and let them. We're not here for a concert by a karaoke host. We're here to joyfully sing, usually poorly. I may be in the minority in this opinion, but that's what Google reviews are - opinions.

I do highly...

Got a 16” cheese pizza. Sauce is good, the crust was just ok. Not sure if the dough didn’t have time to proof or what but it was a very white pie crust and not chewy. But maybe that’s normal here I cant say. The cheese was a small sprinkling. Way more sauce than cheese. For instance, this isn’t a pizza you could lift a slice from and have the cheese stretching as you did because there is too little. Again, maybe I got a guy who went light on the cheese. I cant say if it’s the norm. Just my experience. If I ordered again I’d get extra cheese to be safe. Prices are high but I’m sure their rent is higher. So it’s acceptable. They also have employees willing to work so I have to give praise to the workers. There were a couple places closed for the season because nobody...

Pier One is a great place to grab a quick slice of pizza. In an area where you are lucky to get out the door for less than $20 for lunch, they always have several kinds of pizzas ready to buy by the slice. If your looking for more than that, they offer whole pizzas from 12 to 20 inches and a variety of hot and cold sandwiches on fresh bread. But fair warning, if you get a large you better be hungry or ready to share. Pictured is a large meatball, "The 7th Inning Stretch"...I should have ordered the small.

Pier 1 is two things a dive bar and pizza place. The dive bar/sports bar is pretty solid. Decent selection of beers, tv and par games. It has a great vibe and even had mug club. Everything you want in a dive like sports bar. It is connected to its sister pizza spot. The pizza is just ok. But it is satisfying and they have a ton of toppings for your choice. I wasn’t too encouraged by the by the slice selection. It is advertised as open late but on a Friday it was packing it in around 9…

Very chill bar area that i wasn't expecting in a very touristy spot. Seemed like more locals hanging out compared to the other places nearby. Definitely worth an hour to sip something cold and people watching on the outside tables. Or enjoy the dusky ambiance inside and watch hockey. Didn't try the pizza, so I can't comment on that. Maybe next time.
