Ports of Italy, Boothbay Harbor — Restaurant in Boothbay Harbor

Vacationing in Boothbay, and at the top of our favorite restaurants is Ports of Italy, this place is not to be missed if you love Italian cuisine. Very popular with the locals and the tourists, be smart and make a reservation, especially over the weekend so you will not be disappointed. They are open 7 days a week 4:30-8:00. We had an early reservation and was taken to our table and immediately approached by our waiter, given water, he told us the specials and gave us time to look over the menu. We received a paper bag of warm, delicious rustic bread and olive oil dipping sauce, so good. After ordering, our food arrived in a timely fashion right from the kitchen. I ordered the veal ravioli in a mushroom cream sauce, let me tell you my choice was just delicious and very rich and filling. Husband ordered Osso Buco sitting on top of a rich broth and risotto, what a great presentation and my husband enjoyed it tremendously! Our waiter was very attentive to us and good at his job. Dear Lord if you have a family DO NOT GO HERE! When trying to make reservations we were told NO to any time we had tried and he told us we could come at a certain time. Even with COVID currently we showed up at the said time and were told to sit in the back and that we are not ready for you by a very impolite manager/host. After 20 minutes they finally sit us with terrible service through out our entire time at this restaurant, the waiter was impolite and hit my foot 4 times and did not apologize. Took the wine glasses and placed them on another table after being touched. The food was overcooked and the sauce is unseasoned. Any pizza place down town here could do better in both service and food. If there is a possibility to give this restaurant a zero I wish I could. Later on through my stay here I overheard that the service was horrible to other people who had visited. Save yourself the time, the money, and the frustration and do not go here. 1st, the food: This was hands down the best meal my wife and I had in Boothbay during our 4 days there and multiple restaurants we ate at. I had the gnocchi and she the fettuccine verdi alla carolina and for dessert we had the tiramisu and panna cotta. Everything was incredible, delicately flavored and spot-on. The portion sizes were what you'd expect at this price point, except the tiramisu which I'm happy to say was WAY bigger than I expected! The place was very busy, which is a good sign generally. A little iffy in covid time if you're worried about that, just know what you're getting into if you eat inside. I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could because honestly nothing aside from the food/drink itself wowed us.
