Had a really bad experience here last week. Purchased 2 meals that contained a whole chicken & were supposed to come with 2 sides each (double rice in one & batatas & maduros in the other) I had my husband order since he speaks Spanish and they only speak that for the most part. They tried to give us only 1 container or rice with the 2 whole chickens! We had also ordered 2 stuffed potatoes. The grand total for this meal was $57! They literally charge $25+ for a tiny chicken & small side. The guy was rude & acted as if he did us a favor by giving us the side of batatas that we'd PAID for! Nor maduros like I'd paid for. The chickens were dry inside & had alot of slimy tendon things in them. When we were at home eating I literally put rice from my plate back into the container after taking the first bite because it tasted so bad (almost like leftovers!) Husband ended up sick/puking/#2ing all throughout the night with a case of really bad food poisoning. Luckily I've got him to agree to never go here again because I've truthfully never been a fan. Guess we'll have to go to Lawrence for good Dominican food. Only reason this place is popular is because it's one of the only Dominican restaurants around. I remember years ago seeing them with a bunch of raw chickens on a pole & the wings were dragging on the...
Read moreI called ahead with my order so I didn't have to wait. When I get there they tell me that my order has four pieces of chicken and they only had 3 because they where starting the process to close and that they could give me a some chicharrón instead. I was confused since I ordered a fritura with carnita and chicken, but I said sure that's fine. I had to wait like 20 minutes for the chicken to fry which doesn't make sense because if you have to fry the chicken anyways why not add one more. While waiting I also over heard another customer asking for chicken and the guy saying she had to wait 20 minutes for them to fry it. After all this and patiently waiting I grab my bag and go. When I open my order at home I see they got my order wrong. Instead of the normal chicken that comes with fritura they gave me fried chicken and no carnitas and because I had to wait for so long the sandwiches I ordered where already cold. Very...
Read more4-Star Review for Alex’s Chimis
Alex’s Chimis serves up some seriously delicious Spanish food, and the flavors never disappoint! Every dish is well-seasoned, cooked to perfection, and definitely hits the spot. If you’re craving authentic and tasty Spanish cuisine, this is a solid choice.
That being said, I do feel like the portions could be more generous, especially for the price. I’ve been to other Spanish restaurants where you get enough food to easily feed two to three people for the same price, whereas here, the portions are more single-serving. While the food is amazing, a little more value for the price would make it even better.
Overall, if you’re looking for great-tasting Spanish food, Alex’s Chimis is still worth checking out. Just keep in mind that the portions aren’t as big as some other spots. Definitely recommend for the...
