Matthew Kenney is a prolific vegan chef, known for his restaurants such as Double Zero NYC, Sestina, Bar Verde, Plant City Providence etc. Therefore, when Google maps suggested Double Zero Boston to me, I naturally assumed it's a safe bet and that the food and service will be on par with the other MK restaurants. Boy, was I wrong. This made my non-vegan partner want to not try any more vegan restaurants. Not only was the service PATHETIC, the food was abysmal. Our server was genuinely not interested in taking our order (or serve us the foods judging by the temperature of our food when it arrived). Mind you, it was not a busy time for the restaurant, which if it were the case, we'd totally excuse this. We waited for over 40 minutes for cold, burnt pizza with thin crumbles of hard mock meat we were to assume was their "pepperoni". Judging by the temperature of the food, it is safe to assume that the food was sitting there for over 10 minutes before our server thought it fit for her personal journey to get it to us. We did not think it worth our time to complain, because it was plain as day no one cared how the place is run. Disappointed is not the word. I do not recommend. Please support other better rated local vegan establishments.

As a vegetarian, I was very excited for Double Zero to join the neighborhood. So obviously, I dragged my non-vegetarian boyfriend here during opening week and we tried the caesar salad and pizza. I must say (and the non-vegetarian agreed) - the artichoke pizza was the best pizza we have ever had in Boston. It was light, fresh, flavorful, and savory - exceeded all of our expectations. We paired it with the orange wine, which was light, refreshing, and perfect for summer. Can't wait to go back and try other dishes. While the food was a 15/10, I did not love the restaurant layout. The tables were shared (8 to a table, NO space between parties) and close together, making it hard for the server to reach the different parties that were seated closer to a wall. Next time I will definitely try to grab a seat at the bar.

It was my first vegan pizza in Boston. Being from Europe, the Double Zero crust has an almost perfect flavor of an Italian pizza. The place has a nice, a bit hipstery vibe, and while we were there the only thing odd was that they were blasting 80's hits a bit too loud for our taste, but other than that the ambience is really cozy and perfect for a quick sitdown with friends for some wine and pizza. We chose two different pizzas - artichoke and truffle. While artichoke was fantastic - the freshness of the ingredients with just right amount of sweetness and saltiness, the truffle we found to be a bit bland. It still tasted good, but definitely could be elevated. Overall - a tasty and recommendable find on otherwise pretty pricey Newbury St.

The restaurant is in dire need of a manager during dinner service. The food is good but unfortunately, the service has really gone downhill.

To begin, after being seated, we were never approached by a server and had to request water, silverware, and to our place orders. We tried to order a sangria and were told there was none. Next, we tried to order the cacio e pepe and were told the restaurant was out of spaghetti but they might be able to make the dish using a different pasta. We then proceeded to order a margahretti pizza, artichoke pizza, eggplant parm and cacio e pape with another pasta. After ordering and placing drinks, a server brought our wine in water glasses (there was no offer to taste the wine or wait to get wine glasses). We were told they were out of glasses but just three minutes later we witnessed them give a wine glass to an older couple who ordered a beer. Thankfully, the margarita pizza arrived and was delicious. Nearly twenty minutes after ordering, the server informed us they could not do the cacio e pepe with a different pasta. This was surprising since it had been so long since we had ordered the dish. We then ordered a Caesar salad. Next, we asked where the artichoke pizza was - only to be told that the restaurant had run out of artichoke pizza. This was nearly 40 minutes after ordering the pizza. Throughout the meal, no one checked on us to ask how we were doing. A check was presented to us that still had the cacio e pepe listed in it.

Overall, there is room for...

The Good: -Our foursome showed up 10 minutes before our reservation time and were immediately seated even though the restaurant was very busy. -The aesthetics were pleasing and the aroma from the kitchen was great.

The Bad: -Of the three cocktails on the menu, they were out of all three. Out of the two desserts on the menu, only one was available. They were also out of a couple of the wines. None of this was shared with us before we ordered, so it got to be a bit frustrating. On a large menu, this would not be noteworthy, but their menu is extremely limited. Perhaps doing a daily or weekly menu would lead to less confusion. -The pepperoni pizza was SWEET. Not just a little sweet, but like creme brulee pizza sweet. With a vegan and vegetarian in the family, we have had many opportunities to have faux smoked meats, and this was probably the worst we had ever tasted. -Service was EXTREMELY slow. Not just Pandemic Slow, but neglectfully slow.

The ugly: -After we waited...and waited...and waited...for our pizzas, we got the attention of the manager who shared with us that some of the waitstaff were just taking items ready for pickup from the kitchen even though the items weren't theirs to pick up ...they were trying to get them for their tables to shorten those folks' wait times. Apparently our waitress had not gotten the memo that it was every server for themselves. Luckily (?) the manager then intercepted someone else's...

Short review: Average food, horrible attitude and service

Long review: The Good: The pizza was good

The Bad: -Extremely loud music! Difficult to have a conversation. When we asked to turn the music down slightly, we were told we should think of the restaurant like Starbucks, where corporate controls the music type and volume, employees have no control.

-Servers were not wearing masks although currently Boston city rules mandate masked indoors. Most employees where chin masking

-80% of their drinks menu is out of stock. They did not have a single red wine! We were pressured to order everything in one go, one hour before closing! Even after ordering wine, it took longer to pour two glasses of wine than bake an entire pizza from scratch.

The worse: -30 minutes before they officially close, the employees started to clean right around and under us! They not only swept, but mopped around us! While eating our meal, it smelled like Lysol/bleach all around us!

-Were served stale and spoiled desert, which arrived while only halfway through the food.

-Were rushed through the entire meal! Our glasses were taken away before we were done, our entire table was being cleaned out when we were still eating!

All of the above, during a time when there were only two other tables that had diners and they were...
