Summary: I do not recommend this place for groups, my party had an extremely poor experience here with service and limited menu availability.

First off, for a sushi restaurant on a prime time weekend, they were already out of most menu items by 7pm. Every appetizer we asked for was out and we had to get a substitute. After placing our entrée orders, the staff informed us that they were out of another roll and most of our sushi platters had duplicates of pieces to make up for the unavailable items. Not only did the food take over 90 minutes to come out, but they forgot one of our main dishes as well and nobody check in to see if we were even enjoying the food nor make sure that everyone received their orders. After speaking up for the missing plate, they hastily put together a dish and brought it out. What was more frustrating was that regulars who sat at the bar behind us were being served in 10 minutes from seating, while we were there over 90 minutes and still had not even received our entire order yet.

Overall the fish was fine. For those prices, I have had way better fish elsewhere in the city. The fatty tuna was chewy and the sushi had way too much wasabi at some points. We did not get to try most of the fish had ordered due to the lack of availability at the time.

After speaking up about our missing order, the staff brought the check with little to no acknowledgement of their poor service, random substitutes, and forgotten dish. For a bill that was well over $400+ for our group, to comp one forgotten meal for this kind of experience is unacceptable, especially given the caliber of other options in the back bay area. After 15+ minutes of staff negotiations they were able to make it right with our bill, however at the end of the evening it was the poor service and lack of hospitality that sealed the deal that we will not return here or recommend it for a group until they are able to sort out their own supply and...

Underrated Japanese spot that deserves more love.

I’ll admit I had doubts at first. The sushi hand rolls I had at their sister restaurant (Bosso Ramen Tavern) was mediocre, but this spot definitely exceeded expectations. The concept isn’t anything groundbreaking, but you don’t often see this kind of in-between sushi-izakaya hybrid in Boston. Most locals here go either full takeout or high-end, and restaurants that fall somewhere in the middle rarely thrive.

Despite that, this place offers some of the best value in the neighborhood. I’ve been back a few times now, and every dish I’ve tried has been solid, especially considering the price point.

Most people come here for their $38 Omakase Nigiri special, and to be fair, it’s a great deal. Nothing overly inventive, but the quality is a clearly better than your typical neighborhood sushi joint. Still, my favorite part of the menu leans more toward the small plates and grilled fish. The yellowtail collar, in particular, was right up my alley: fatty, oven-roasted, and crisped just right. It’s rare to find a cut like this, especially at this price, outside of high-end omakase spots. The miso black cod was also good. Lightly marinated, simply plated, and of course, tender.

Among the small plates, the Salmon Belly Namban was my favorite. It looked slightly overcooked at first glance, but the pickling and brining were perfectly dialed in. Tender, fatty, and full of flavor. I actually liked it more than the black cod. And if you’re around on a weekday, the Kaiseki lunch might be the best sushi lunch deal in Boston. Three small plates (including that salmon namban), rice, salad, soup, and a mochi dessert for $19.

Exactly the kind of spot I crave when I want Japanese comfort food that’s not covered in spicy mayo or wrapped in gold leaf. It’s a shame they’re not getting more attention. Hope they hang on, because I’ll definitely keep...

Disappointing Experience – Poor Service and Poor Timing

We really wanted to enjoy this restaurant, but unfortunately, our experience was far from pleasant.

We were seated at 5:30 PM, and were told the last call for orders is at 6:00 PM. We asked if we can still do the all you can eat omakase experience. We were affirmed that it’s plenty of time. Given that we had less than 30 minutes to order and eat, we were disappointed that the restaurant didn’t tell us that it’s not enough time to enjoy the full experience or accommodate the tight timeline.

The "all-you-can-eat" option was presented as 6 pieces of nigiri at a time, which we were fine with, but the execution was problematic. Our first round of sushi took an unreasonably long time to arrive, and when it did, we were still waiting for basic items like soy sauce, ginger, and plates. The waitress seemed completely disengaged from our needs, which was frustrating. A busboy had to bring out plates for us to eat with.

After about 15 minutes, we still hadn’t received our next order, so the hostess kindly stepped in and placed it for us. We were grateful for that, but the situation continued to get worse. Ten minutes later, we were informed that we had to eat all the rice balls before they would bring out the next round. We were confused and uncomfortable, especially since the staff seemed to be discussing us behind our backs.

In the end, we finished what we had and asked for the check. For the mediocre food, rushed service, and overall unpleasant experience, we were charged \

130, which included \\

49 per person and two drinks. Honestly, it wasn’t worth it.

We were really hopeful going in, but this restaurant failed to deliver both in terms of service and experience. We won’t...
