I gave the dumplings here a try last year, and they were awful. Surprised by how the name of the restaurant is Dumpling KINGDOM. Coreanos around the block has much better dumplings.
After a year, I gave them a shot again, and the waitress was really rude. She flicked her hand to point to us where to sit, gave us the menu, after choosing Mala Special to order the price said $8.50, and the waitress shared that there's been a price increase totaling about $20 for that item instead. Not sure why a restaurant has menus with the wrong prices. That should be shared from the beginning not after spending 10min looking for what to order to then have to change what to order.
The waitress then passive aggressively asked "ready now"? When we finally ordered I asked "does this come with rice", and she rudely said "no rice!" The tension between her and I was unsettling for just trying to enjoy a meal out.
At the end, when trying to pay they took the check back so quickly as to get us to leave right away when I hadn't written in the tip yet, and dropped it back on our table.
I tried to like this place, but I've decided I'm done trying. It's not worth visiting. There's PLENTY of other places to choose from. If they went out of business it would be better for the...
Read moreOne of my favorite spots in Allston for lunch specials.
Been coming here for lunch whenever I’m running errands in the area. While trendy new Chinese restaurants are constantly popping up in Allston, Dumpling Kingdom offers classic Chinese lunch specials that transport me back to simpler times. Forget the flashy newcomers. This unassuming restaurant consistently satisfies my cravings at unbeatable prices.
Their lunch specials feature over 20 items, each accompanied by a complimentary side of egg drop soup and white rice. Some of my favorites include the Mala Spicy Flounder Fillet and Twice Cooked Pork. The flounder fillet, with its perfect balance of heat and tender meat, is one of the best I've had in Boston. Other dishes I've tried, like Beef with Scallions, Salt and Pepper Pork Chops, and Taiwanese Pork Belly, were also solid.
I've also tried two of their dumplings and particularly enjoyed the Mini Juicy Buns with Pork & Crabmeat. While the umami of the fillings wasn't completely satisfying, these buns were packed with a good amount of pork juice—so much so that my first bite splashed all over my shirt.
Despite this amazing lunch special deal, the restaurant doesn’t get crowded during lunchtime, so I highly recommend...
Read moreI’ve been going to Dumpling Kingdom for a while because I love their food but I have had multiple unpleasant experiences with the waitress whenever I go there with my friends. When I was there 2 days ago, the waitress was giving me a lot of attitude about my order when she got it wrong 3 times in a row. It got to the point that she stood there, looked at the food, and laughed because I wouldn’t eat the food that I didn’t order when she came out the 2nd time. The 3rd time she came back with the right order and she kept trying to engage with me about this and tried to make a joke to my friends to which she said that she could “kill me” for making her send the food back and she did a motion with her hands to show that she wanted to “strangle” me. I thought it was extremely unprofessional and extremely inappropriate to say since I’m a black woman and I know she wouldn’t have reacted that way if I was white. There’s nothing with sending food back that wasn’t what you ordered and she made a huge deal about it. She’s always had an attitude with me and honestly, I genuinely don’t know what her issue is. Completely unprofessional and...
