I was intrigued to see a Brazilian bakery when looking for a place for dessert after lunch in Allston. I love a good pao de queijo so I decided to give it a try.
They have a pretty wide selection of pastries and breads, though there were no prices listed so I had to ask for the prices. The pao de queijo were 50 cents each, so I got 6. I also got a chicken sfiha and a guava turnover.
The pao de queijo (50c/ea) were pretty good, and definitely a reasonable price. They are pretty small and irregular in size/shape. They were a bit stale and hard/dry, but were revived pretty well in an air fryer at home. They had a good subtle cheese flavor and had a lot of holes inside. Assuming they do make them daily, I think they probably taste great if you go early in the morning. Overall I would probably consider getting them again when I'm in the area. Not the best I've had, but it's hard to beat 50 cents.
The chicken sfiha ($5.65) was quite substantial with a thick bread layer and a dense chicken filling. I liked the flavor of the chicken -- there was a strong garlic flavor and it was nicely savory. It was all a bit dry and dense but filling and well-flavored.
The guava turnover ($3.90) was basically a strip of guava jam inside of puff pastry with some sweet crackly stuff on top. This was also pretty good reheated in the air fryer. My friend also got a guava turnover that had very little jam, so it may be inconsistent.
Overall I enjoyed trying a variety of their pastries. Nothing was amazing but everything was solid and the pao de queijo were especially good value. I'm glad I tried this place and will certainly keep it in mind for future...
Read moreMy girlfriend made a order through uber eats, the order took a little longer than it should to be made but that’s okay what really got me was the fact that the uber eats driver disappeared with out food so after we kept getting delayed messages from the app, we called the bakery and they said that we have to contact the app we tried to do that and the app didn’t even gave us the driver name, so we called the bakery again, the bakery didn’t do anything about it, and kept telling us that it wasn’t their problem, they could at least offer help but they didn't and I had the manager saying “if I give you ur money back I’ll be losing my money” “if I remake you the food I’ll be losing the food”, it was one açaí and one juice. Places like this only care about their own pockets and don’t care to help the clients and try to solve problems and at least try to show...
Read moreTypical Brazilian bakery experience with a solid selection of savory pastries.
Stopped by a couple of times for light meals and found their mix of sweet and savory pastries to be quite good: Rissoles and Vanilla Donut. The Rissoles, which are essentially Brazilian empanadas, were particularly good—crispy yet soft, reminiscent of croquettes. Despite not being made fresh and kept warm in the display, both the ham and cheese, and meat rissoles were enjoyable. On the other hand, the Chicken Skewer and Chicken Empanadas were dry and less appealing.
With numerous Brazilian pastry shops around the GBA, I'm not certain if Cafe Brazil stands out as a top option. Still, I would probably return for...
