I’ve dined at Victoria Seafood nearly 10 times because the food is undeniably delicious and most of the staff are warm, attentive, and truly wonderful. I’ve built great rapport with several of them. That’s why it’s so disappointing that one particular “creature” consistently ruins the entire experience: an elderly man who appears to be either the manager or the owner.
His behavior has been nothing short of arrogant, demeaning, and shockingly unprofessional. Here are just a few examples: “NOT MY JOB!” — Total Refusal to Help a Waiting Customer During a busy lunch, a customer politely asked if he could please help bring the tea, as the table had been waiting for quite some time. A reasonable and respectful request. His response? He raised his voice and snapped, “NOT MY JOB!”, then stood idly near the table, deliberately refusing to help. The contempt in his tone and body language was astonishing. Aggressive Hand Gestures with No Words — Treated Like a Nuisance I was seated at a table for four and had already received the menu. Suddenly, this man came over, said nothing, and began aggressively waving his hands at me, making sharp, dismissive noises like “ehhh ehhh ehhh” — signaling for me to move to a smaller table. No words. No “excuse me.” Just pure rudeness, as if I had done something wrong by simply sitting where I was told. It was humiliating and completely uncalled for. Abrupt, Arrogant Dismissal of a Simple Reservation Request On another occasion, I tried to reserve a table for four for the next evening. Before I could finish my sentence, he cut me off and snapped, “No need to book for tomorrow! Just come! No reservation!” The tone was dismissive and unnecessarily aggressive. It felt like he was scolding me for even trying to plan ahead.
The rest of the team is lovely, and the food truly is fantastic. But this one man’s arrogance and lack of basic respect consistently overshadow what should be an enjoyable dining experience.
This creature should not be allowed to damage the reputation of an otherwise excellent restaurant. If he is the owner, then I hope he reflects on how his attitude is driving loyal customers away and realizes that good food alone cannot make up for...
Read moreFood was mediocre and really greasy for Cantonese and the service sucked (way more than usual)!Avoid if you can!!
In Boston for short trip, craved Cantonese food and since we are in Boston we thought why not try the lobster. We were a party of 2, told waiter we wanted a small lobster (since we couldn’t take anything to-go), he mentioned briefly that we should get medium but didn’t really sell it. Guess our surprised when the dish showed up with 2.5 lobster (counting by the heads) can’t tell from the lack of body meat. Didn’t want to waste food and put the waiter in a difficult spot so we finished the lobster. Didn’t want to make a scene but it would have been nice to know if you thought a small lobster wasn’t enough you can honestly tell us and put some effort into actually recommending the medium and not leaving us feeling conned! And that’s not the end, because we were put in the back where there were no other patrons and in front of the restroom no less. No one single server came check-in with us other than to deliver the food for more tea/change plate etc despite many walked passed us on the way to their own tea and for restroom. The lack of service and the fact that we felt we were conned led us to leave a 10+% tip (with around $40/person bill) which honestly were more than they deserved. While getting ready to leave, a server (who literally just took our order) stopped us and said we had to leave a 15% or more tip. I told him that we felt the service did not deserve any more and pointed out no one had tried to help us with anything if not trying to con us. He kept saying it was required to tip more in the US and their management pay them low wages as if that would justify you trying to con us to pay more for food we didn’t want and why would you do that if that does not benefit you?! To raise cost so I would pay more tip? Cause that’s exactly what it was looking like it! Not wanting to get into it we continued to leave. And he had the audacity to continued to yell at us as we were leaving. Seriously?! While I agree that minimum wage of the working people (myself included) is low and not an living wage, it does not give you a right to keep conning others out of their hard earned $$! ...
Read moreHorrible service, yet required 15% tip!
These people don't deserve even a star! We were a party of 5 came in for dinner, when we were sitting down the lady there throwing down the menus on the table. Then when the guy brought out the food for us, he had the phone on one hand and the other hand setting down the foods, we asked for soy sauce, he can't hear us at all (still on the phone)... so we had to get up and get the soy sauce ourselves from the nearby table, of course we didn't have a separate plate for the soy sauce, so we had to pour them in our only plate.
We weren't very please with the service, so when they brought out the bill of 46.00, we gave them 50.00 cash even (offered them 4.00 tip). The guy told us, we were 5.00 short of 15% tip! And he was rude enough to said it out loud embarrassing us, I took the 50.00 back and gave him exactly 46.00 as on the bill! He was even louder and dragging one more guy there into our table and demand for 15% tip! I told them tip is optional for party less than 8 (or whatever the number they specify and need to either posted in their menu or their restaurant so customers aware of it), so I asked them to show me their policy of requiring their customer to pay 15% tip. They just said there is no policy but every restaurant have that requirement, if we don't agree to pay tip, then just pick up the food and don't eat in their restaurant! I told them, yes customer can elect to pay the tip (at whatever rate they want) if they feel the server derserved it, but definitely not required!
We are Vietnamese American by race, so these Chinese people intentionally picked on us for this requirement thinking they can get by with it! If you are Caucasian, and want to give them a try without paying the full 15% tip, I bet you they don't dare to touch you because they knew they can't get by with it for sure!
There are alot of restaurants in the area and are certainly worthy trying out! Avoid these bullies that may find you are weaker and requiring you to pay them the 15% tip that they...
