The food is amazing at Brown sugar. Is expertly prepared there are pages and pages and pages of menu options (more on that later) so the selection is fantastic. There are clear indicators to tell you which dishes are hot or very hot.
My daughter was super thirsty and housed her water. I think that kind of makes her a little high maintenance for the person who has the water pitcher. At one point she actually drank what was left of my water before the water pitcher kid was able to Circle back. The service was great very attentive to my daughter's overeager water drinking behavior and also very friendly. If we had questions about the menu, they were accommodating and knowledgeable. I have heard that the crab rangoons at this place are off the hook but I haven't eaten in a long time so I have nothing to report from my own experience. I had Penang curry with tofu and it was amazing. Very fragrant and fresh smelling.
Brown sugar is super easy to get to using the green line however it is not that easy to park at. So if you're driving, expect to need time to park and walk.
I do want to say that my one suggestion for Brown Sugar is they should get an accessibility specialist to study and redesign their menu. It's not very organized. It is chapters long. I'm not entirely sure what the headings on the chapters would be. It's not labeled for food intolerances. In fact it does seem like brown sugar wasn't thinking very much about food intolerances or readability when they made their menu.
Similar to "friendly's", they have one of those random laminated sheets with images of "popular dishes" on it. Both sides look identical and have the same heading except that if You observe what the images are there are different things on one side than the other. I'm not sure it just seems like a random laminated sampling of their menu for people who don't want to bother opening the menu. I'm also willing to put money on my theory that these are the dishes that cost brown sugar less money to make and therefore they make better profit on these featured "popular dishes". Without asking directly, I can't confirm that but I do know that that happens in food service.
The menu has iconography for dishes that are hot or very hot. That is helpful. There is another icon on the menu that appears for "popular dishes". I searched and searched for a key so that I could see what that icon meant and I couldn't find it on the menu so that affordance needs to be there... but also just know that people who have food intolerances are expecting that those icons indicate common food allergens are present. Zero labeling present for dairy, gluten, soy, fish... I'm sure that the kitchen staff is able to identify this stuff and keep it safe for patrons but it's not on the menu which people have to understand it makes it hard to order if you don't have an existing familiarity...
Read moreIf you’re considering Brown Sugar Cafe for a night out, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. While the food was passable (standard Thai fare, nothing special), the service was hands-down some of the worst I’ve ever experienced.
We were first served the wrong dishes, which meant we waited nearly 40 extra minutes just to get what we had originally ordered. By that point, any enjoyment of the meal had already soured. To make things worse, the staff’s attitude was outright dismissive—cold, unwelcoming, and completely uninterested in whether we were having a good experience.
The final straw? Being pushed to finish quickly because “the table was needed.” After waiting so long for our meal due to their mistakes, being told to hurry up was insulting and unacceptable.
Between the careless service, unprofessional management, and lack of basic hospitality, this place left an awful impression. The food might be “fine,” but no dish is worth putting up with that kind of treatment....
Read moreHorrible service! Called in for a pick up and there was a mistake on my order when I arrived. I called back to remake my order because my food was the wrong option and it was all watered down. A staff member named Runi picked up my call yelled at me and demanded that I was in the wrong and I should listen to her clearly. She said that I had no right to order for two people and that next time my mother should order for herself. Did not know there was a policy on number of orders? She was extremely disgusting and very disrespectful. Also, the staff needs to step it up and show some professionalism! They are unfriendly and don't greet you the moment you come in. Overall, it's an unpleasant atmosphere, all they care about is to sit you down and take money from you! I warn you not to waste your money and time here! Did they forget that they are working in customer service and not running an...
