This is anonymous because HUE IS cliquey and the recent 5 star reviews are proof. Just look the people up.
First and foremost - the food here is nothing to write home about especially for the options in the area. I would not go here on an empty stomach. Whether you have to 1) wait forever for your food, 2) be met with a different menu (and prices) upon arrival, or 3) are dissatisfied with your selections - do not come here on an empty stomach, especially if you plan to drink 🙏🏾.
The cocktails / bar service is hit or miss depending on the bartender. When the cocktails are good they’re GREAT. When they’re bad they’re HORRIBLE. The problem is that when they’re bad - it’s a hassle to fix it. Sometimes I just give up.
NOW, AS TO NOT BURY THE LEDE:
Within the last 24 hours, this place received several 5 star reviews and these are either from HUE employees or very close friends of management who are HIGHLY favored. Instead of taking accountability for recent behavior, they enlisted people THEY know to leave reviews in order to bury the newer low ratings. This is concerning and potential customers should be wary.
This place is extremely cliquey, and that IS DRIVEN BY MANAGEMENT. I frequented HUE in 2023, and noticed that they CLEARLY try to cater to and curate a certain clientele (and that may differ night to night, so good luck). That’s fine, I guess, just say that.
My review comes from disappointment because Rob (the owner) touted that HUE welcomes all POC. They claim to be some sort of safe space for POC that historically wouldn’t have been accepted in Boston nightlife, SPECIFICALLY BASED ON DRESS CODE!!! But now, in 2025, management don’t wanna let people with Timbs in? IN NEW ENGLAND?!?!?! FOH 😂😂 But oh wait, that only applies to certain people …
Search #hueboston on tiktok to find Hermela, the operations manager, discriminating against a patron based on a biased dress code. The traction came about because Hermela used her discretion to deny the video creator entry due to her cargo pants; however, there were other patrons exiting in cargo pants. Hermela informed the video creator: if she knows the person/their vibe, it’s okay. Take this as you will: it‘s very possible you will be denied entry from HUE - regardless of your ticket/reservation/party - because you do not meet the “vibe” of the night.
PROS: ⁃ Aesthetic ambience (picturesque) ⁃ You may be “seen” lol ⁃ Networking ⁃ DJ can be 10/10
HIT OR MISS: ⁃ Service: staff are hospitable, attentive and provide great service (depends on hostess and servers, fingers crossed to scheduling) ⁃ Music (depends on the DJ, so check insta before going) ⁃ Cocktails (depends on bartender, good luck)
CONS: FOOD ⁃ Unprofessional management ⁃ Bias dress code ⁃ Poor 3rd party event management ⁃ It’s a basement (when it’s packed, it’s PACKED) ⁃ Not a place to come chat with a friend because music is too loud ⁃ Hermela, if she doesn’t like you
Overall: If I were you, I wouldn't make this the focal part of your night out. It is very hit or miss and expensive. After my experiences (since 2023!) and those of the public (✊🏽), I’ll take my business elsewhere. At the end of the day, if you want people to spend money, I think you should be kind. Management shouldn’t treat respectful, PAYING, jovial patrons like burdens and that’s what is happening now.
There are so few Boston nightlife spaces black people (and POC in general) feel comfortable, welcome and happy 🙁. So WHAT PEOPLE and WHAT VIBE are yall exactly tryna cater to? Let us know before we come to Back Bay and waste our hard earned money.
It is now buried by fake reviews, but I’m hoping another recent reviewer, Margaret, gets the answers she's looking for. I agree, sometimes visits here are disturbing. It’s disturbing because of how brazen management and some employees are with their disrespect TO PEOPLE TRYING TO SPEND MONEY AND HAVE A GOOD TIME! Sometimes you legit think you’re getting punked.
Anyways, yall got (had🥴) a good thing going. For yalls sake, please don’t ruin it...
Read moreCame here as part of a bar crawl with friends excited to try Hue for the first time. After waiting about 30 minutes in line (bouncers told us the event was oversold), we make it in only to get turned away at both entrances in in the club and told our tickets were not for Hue. We pointed out their name on the ticket page and were sent back up to talk to the manager. At first we were told that we went to the wrong side, despite the fact that we had tried both sides. Even explaining this much was difficult as we kept getting interrupted. We explained we were there for the bar crawl and were confused why our tickets didn’t get us in, to which we were told (in quite a rude tone) to “read the fine print” saying that you could only enter at a certain time. We arrived well within the time stated on the event page. We were then told that there were two private events happening and that the tickets we had were not valid for either of them. An incredibly difficult conversation ensued in which the manager repeatedly told us to “let her finish” as she said restated the same things over and over again and then interrupted us anytime we tried to respond by saying we “weren’t listening” to her.
Eventually the bouncer came in to intervene and she completely switched up, claiming that she had “been telling us we can go in” to the private event she previously said she had “no control” over but that we had wanted to keep dragging it. We were really just trying to understand why their name was on a paid and ticketed bar crawl event on a night where both their spaces were booked for private events unaffiliated with the crawl. She treated us as if we were stupid and fabricating a problem because we pressed her on this obvious oversight. Over the course of the conversation she admitted that The bouncers confused the bar crawl wristbands and the name of the bar crawl for another event when they told us what line to stand in (we asked them directly if we were in the correct line) They had signed up for the crawl “a year and a half ago” and other things had come up “in the meantime” They signed up because the event organizers are their friends (yes she genuinely said this in all seriousness, not long after telling us they had nothing to do with the “third party” event organizers) They never have people from the crawl actually show up to Hue because they are not on the same street as most of the other bars, and only expect their “usual crowd” None of these excuses given came with any admission of guilt, apology, or acknowledgment that they signed up for a crawl that they ultimately booked two events over and forgot about. Instead she acted as if these were all acceptable and obvious reasons for the situation and condescended us for not agreeing. The bouncers nor any of the staff had any idea what we were talking about when we showed them the tickets and the woman we spoke to was clearly reading the eventbrite page to figure out what to say to us.
We ended up being escorted to one of the private events (someone’s birthday party) which was fine, but not worth the effort and not what was advertised. It is also very strange that someone could book a private event there and be made to accommodate people from a completely separate event that the venue signed up for and didn’t plan to accommodate themselves. The bouncers were sweet but clearly left in the dark by management. I’m urging the managers to contact the bar crawl organizers and tell them to take their names off the page for the crawls happening the next two weekends, since they clearly do not want to participate. The woman we were speaking to told us that they don’t receive any money from the ticket sales and that they have their “regular crowd” that they expect (and clearly prefer), so I can’t fathom why they would sign up for it in the first place. From the reviews I read, it seems like a reoccurring issue they have with these “third...

I drove from Providence, RI, with a couple of friends excited to enjoy a Bachata Brunch at Hue in Boston. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we expected.
Upon arrival, the host—who I believe was named Luis—was warm and welcoming. However, the restaurant manager’s demeanor was the complete opposite. When we arrived, we informed her we had a reservation and asked for a few minutes to use the restroom. After stepping out, we were surprised to find that she was nowhere to be found. We asked the security guard for assistance in locating her so we could be seated.
Luis eventually approached us, and we let him know we had already paid for the brunch tickets in advance, although we were a little early. He was accommodating and told us a table was available. However, after speaking with the manager, she abruptly cut him off and told him the table had been given to someone else—even though we had a confirmed reservation through OpenTable.
Luis suggested we wait near the DJ booth until another table became available, which we did. Not long after, we were informed that we needed to pay an additional $35 per person for the buffet, even though it was supposed to be included with the brunch ticket we had already purchased. This felt like a bait-and-switch. To make matters worse, the buffet options were very limited and absolutely not worth the extra cost.
We never received a table, and after sitting near the DJ booth for a while, we were suddenly told we had to move because the space was reserved for the promoter. No one communicated where we were supposed to go—just that we couldn’t sit there anymore. It was disorganized and frustrating.
At one point, while I was seated, the manager began cleaning around me and made a passive-aggressive comment: “Oh, I don’t know who these drinks and things belong to.” She saw me sitting there but chose not to address me respectfully. When I calmly explained our situation, she said she couldn’t accommodate us because she “had nothing to do with the Bachata night.”
When I reached out to the promotion team, they said they couldn’t do anything to help and that it was up to the restaurant. Then the restaurant turned around and said nothing further could be done because “it’s not their event.” We were left going in circles, with no accountability on either side.
When I asked for a refund on the buffet charge, the manager was only able to process a refund for one person—not all of us. To top it off, she threw away my friend’s drink while she was in the restroom, which was completely unnecessary and unprofessional.
Service overall was poor. The waitress was slow and rarely checked in on us. Communication between the staff was lacking, and the attitude of the management left a lot to be desired.
What was supposed to be a fun and festive Bachata Brunch turned into a disappointing and frustrating experience. I hope Hue and the event organizers take this feedback seriously and work on improving both their service and coordination...
